Skip school for softball?

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Yeah, it's an easy decision if all they're going to be doing the last day is cleaning out lockers, turning in books, and watching movies. But what if they do have exams? Is it fair to just tell the school that the teacher needs to accommodate them and give them their exam early? I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask if that would cause any problem, but are we also losing an opportunity here to let our kids know that studies must always come first? Again, mixed feelings ... good question ...

Softball is much more important than school, How could any logical thinking parent think otherwise. Good luck in your tournament's girls. :lmao:

This is a easy one if you have finals or some type of testing then you go to school, if not you go play ball. Say good bye to perfect attendence:)

As it turns out, 9 of the 11 girls have school on Friday June 6th. I hope the Truancy Officer isn't at Kettering Fields. Do they still have Truancy Officers? LOL

I would say that you leave it up to each individual student and not pressure them to miss school . I think it would be very unfare for a coach to ask a child with perfect attendence to miss school . This may not seem like a big deal to some but to others including myself its a great accomplishment . I will say that I think schools that are making days up that late into June probobly should have planned better to make the days up in a different way. I heard schools making these days up by going 15 to 30 minutes longer for a certain number of days or like the school I work for sent home Blizzard bags over holidays and spring break . We get out May 30th and we missed 9 days !

how are the grades? did dd struggle? there's alot more of the school year i'd have to evaluate before making that decision. you need to earn time off. or your just letting them off the hook.

I hate these situations. We already made this decision this year as my daughter's school did not get MLK Day off and we had games that day.
We did it because the next day the whole school was going on a trip to DC. So on MLK Day there were not regular classes; they were going over trip specifics (which we already knew because we were chaperoning) and other non-class related things. We told our daughter why we let her skip school and everything that went in to our decision (and that we would not have let her skip if they actually had classes or tests). In life she will have these kinds of decisions to make. Instead of a black and white rules (e.g. no softball over school ever), we want to encourage her to think about the decisions she has to make with reason and show her that we do the same thing.
I was also secretly happy things turned out the way they did because any extra day I get to spend with her and my husband- especially watching her play softball- is a much better day.
