Slugger Fest 2010 - Patty's Update

Hello all, I realize it's been a long time since I have posted anything on here. I've been a bit busy with a move and family. Let me explain what has happened and where I am.

I have enjoyed 24 years of building great relationships with a vast number of coaches, players, and their fans in the softball world. While many of you know that I moved to Cincinnati for softball (as an umpire) the youth program ?hooked? me and as they say ? the rest is history with the development of leagues, tournaments, camps and clinics over the years.

My parents own a vacation resort in south central Kentucky on Dale Hollow Lake called Hendricks Creek Resort. ( www.hendrickscreekresort.com ) We have owned Hendricks Creek since the mid 1950?s. Last Christmas my father asked me to come home to help run the family business with my brother. I have thought long and hard (over a year) about what to do. I have given up much family time over the years for the softball world and have made the decision be a part of the third generation of our family business.
While softball will not be a huge part of my life here in Burkesville, Kentucky immediately ? Slugger Fest will continue to operate. (This gives me a chance to come back to see all my friends!) Who knows ? the 40 acres of ?flat land? Dad enticed me with to come home may end up one day being a softball complex!

My parents both have health issues. Because I have given 24 years of my life to running softball and both the season for the resort and softball are the same - I was not around my family very often. For this reason, and before something happens to either of them, I chose to move south.

Giving up the sport I was passionate about was very hard and I hope that you will all understand the reason for my move.

Now for Slugger Fest - 2010 and beyond.
Slugger Fest will be run for the 19th year in 2010. I will be back for the tournament - after all a girl can't go completely cold turkey!

Slugger Fest will be held at Rivershore as it has the past several years. We listened to teams last year that wanted more age divisions on the same weekend so they could travel together with their programs. We are offering that this year.
We do have more teams registered than what is shown on the web site - I will update shortly.

If you would like to contact me - please send me an email at pamrein@duo-county.com

Wondered where you'd gotten to. Can't blame you for moving down there, awfully pretty country.

Pretty country and it looks like a great place. In my younger days friends and I would get a houseboat in northern Minnesota (Ely). Lots of fun. Wife and girls have never been on one so we are going to try and get down your way this summer.

Looking forward to Sluggerfest. Come on teams, get registered at: http://www.sluggerfest.com/

Used to buy equipment off you for deer park fastpitch rec league. Came out to your house a few times with jim flamm

You husband and daughter used to give pitching lessons in my back yard to the rec girls.

Good Luck to you and your family ;)

Patty,

It has truly been a pleasure to have known and worked with you over all the years. You don't know this but my daughter pitched in some of the very first Sluggerfests, when they were at Schmidt field and on one occasion, we played a game at 230AM due to rain. In our last Sluggerfest we played at Rumpke. Sluggerfest was undoubtedly the first major fast pitch event in all southwest Ohio and a major player in getting me started doing tournaments.
I fully understand your decision and can't think of a better thing to do than working with your folks on what I know is a labor of love with them and having you there has to mean a great deal more toi them than words can ever express. Vicki and I send our best to you in this new phase in your life and wish you success and prosperity.

Thank you all - you bring tears to my eyes! I will truely miss the game -but there's a reason I am where I am for the other 48 weeks of the year!

I do miss everyone and look forward to seeing you all in June!

It is "God's Country" down here - it is certainly a different lifestyle than living in Cincy. I have to plan my shopping trips now! The closest Walmart is 38 miles away - LOL.
Patty

And if anyone is interested - we have 30+ houseboats that need to be rented this spring / summer / fall - It would be a great place to bring a team for some bonding time!

Patty,

So glad to hear from you and glad to hear everything is fine...was a little worried! Thanks for everything that you have done for the sport and for me over the years. I remember our first fall ball season with you at good old Riverfront West...lol. I think the break will be hard for you but I bet you will come to Sluggerfest completely rejuvenated. This sport is great but certain parts of it can wear on ya so a little break cant hurt after all of these years. Good Luck!

Patty:

Thanks from the Buckeye Heat organization for all you have done for Ohio softball. I know that the choice was difficult, but it certainly sounds like you should be very comfortable both in your 48 weeks in Burkesville and the time you spend at Sluggerfest. Your softball season is being cut way back but a different challenging and rewarding season has begun for you. Best of luck to you, your parents, and Hendricks Creek Resort. (BTW, Coach Sonny wasn't the only one a bit worried by cryptic references on OFC to "changes and events" relating to the fact that you had been replaced by the ASA, so thanks for explaining!)
