[Softball] Bryan Drops Pair to Cumberland Despite Homeruns by O'Shields and Durham

LEBANON, Tenn. – It was a shootout in the first game of Friday's doubleheader between Bryan College softball and Mid-South Conference host Cumberland University with all of the Lions' runs scored off of homers by the duo of Hannah O'Shields (SR/LaFayette, Ga.) and Austyn Durham (FR/Great Neck, N.Y.). O'Shields' bat was hot in the first inning, and Durham capitalized in the seventh, but a steady barrage of runs in the latter half of the game by Cumberland resulted in the Phoenix prevailing 8-5. The home team carried their momentum into the nightcap, using a late surge to win 5-1 before the game was called after five frames due to darkness, resulting in Cumberland capturing the sweep to improve their overall record to 9-2 while Bryan moved to 3-9.
