SANTEE, Calif. – Playing at home for the first time of the 2020 season, the LSU Golden Eagles spoiled the party with a doubleheader sweep of the SDC softball team on Friday.

LSU took Game 1 10-9 before winning 9-1 in five innings in Game 2.

In Game 1, the Golden Eagles grabbed the first lead in the top of the first. SDC grabbed the lead in the third after Montana Potts hit a 2 RBI double to left field.

In the fourth, Kayla Dominguez singeld to first base that scored Jennifer Rivera from third base for the 3-1 lead. River later got in on the action herself with a RBI single to right field.

Leading 4-1 heading into the sixth, the Golden Eagles exploded with six runs in the inning to take a 7-4 lead.

SDC answered back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game before fireworks happened in the seventh.

La Sierra scored four runs in the top of the frame and lead 10-6 in the bottom of the seventh. Katherine Martinez started it off in the seventh with a single to right field scoring Noemi Farfan. Potts again delivered for SDC with another 2 RBI hit, this time a single up the middle.

But it was too little, too late as the Hawks failed to get one more runner across the plate.

In the second game, the Golden Eagles scored early and often and kept the Hawks off the scoreboard for most of the game. LSU scored four runs in the first and three in the second.

SDC's only run of the game came from a Farfan single to right field in the bottom of the second.

The Hawks will be back on the diamond Feb. 7-8 in the TCS NAIA College Classic in Lake Elsinore.
