[Softball] No. 11 HIU Takes Both against Hawks in GSAC Opener

FULLERTON, Calif. – The SDC softball team almost pulled off an upset over the No. 11 team in the country on Friday afternoon. But the finish wasn't what the Hawks wanted.


SDC lost 4-3 in eight innings in Game 1 and fell 8-0 in Game 2 against Hope International.


In Game 1, the Hawks took the lead in the third inning. Neomi Farfan singled and scored Joselle Nicolas for the 1-0 lead. Alicia Corona singled home Montana Potts a batter later doubling the lead to 2-0.


After scoreless innings, Erika Silva hit an RBI double to score Jennifer Rivera for the 3-0 cushion. But the Royals were able to score a run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to capture the extra-inning win.


In Game 2, the Royals were able to capture the 8-0 win via run-rule in the fifth inning.


The Hawks host Vanguard on Saturday for a DH starting at 4 p.m.
