We will be making our first visit to Spano Dome for the 16U tournament in a couple weeks. My wife has arthritis, and has trouble moving too much. Any advice for watching games at Spano?

There's only two fields there. There is some seating on the main floor, but in my opinion the best views of the fields are from the upper seats. I'm your case you may want to stick to the main level. If you have to move between games from one field to the other you dont have to move very far, depending on how well you want to see. Good luck, nice place, made some improvements that helped ALOT. Im sure someone from the spano would be more than happy to help you out if needed.

Ground level - Be prepared for having a lot of people crammed into a small space. It's loud.
2nd level is better. But, yes, you'd have to get up & down the stairs if you have to change fields.
By the end of the day, there's a damp, dusty haze in the atmosphere.
And you sometimes have to get creative to find parking.

But, I love the SpanoDome. Where else can you play on real dirt in January, with 2/3 of an outfield?

They made some really nice improvements this year including a new walkway from one end to the other on the 2nd level!! So, now you can walk from one end to the other and see both fields and you wont have to go up and down the stairs! I love playing there and will be scrimmaging with Ice this Friday! Cant wait!!

Bring a lawn chair and stay on the first level. They have handicapped sections designated on the first floor right by the dugouts for people who need them. Upstairs is nice too but I would stay on the lower level if she has problems navigating the steps. It's a great place, you will love it!!

All that, plus, tell the girls to not even think about stealing home on a passed ball. The catcher only has about 4 feet between herself and the "backstop"...:(

Dan Maz -- You're playing with the Ice? Or did I misread that? As it turns out, the dd's team has a scrimmage at Spano this Friday. I hope we meet.

No more mold, walls painted & re-tiled, new viewing/ walkway for second level. Much nicer, but I like Pinnacle better. Call me crazy, I like the bigger field, WAY BETTER warm up areas, I can live w/o the dirt for a few more months. Any opinions on the two arenas????????

Are the Spano playing fields bigger than Pinnacle? DD's school team playing winterball at Rival in Lorain, which is basically full-size fields. Rival is very nice, although warmup space is limited.

Pinnacle only has the one field (indoors), so it gives them more room on the field. I believe pinnacle is bigger for that reason. You actually have a right fielder in pinnacle, not your 2b playing both positions. They also have a field outside. The warm up areas are really the big difference to me, your not gonna slip and bust your as$ on any cement at pinnacle.

Just don't lean up against those walls, unless you don't mind getting your clothes wet.

It can be done. We won a game 1-0 there last year and our one run was on a passed ball.

I feel like Pinnacle has a higher ceiling too - and as said above a much deeper outfield. Turf vs. dirt covered cement. My kid would prefer to play at Pinnacle - she likes turf and the ceiling situation is not the same at all. However, the smell is gone and the walls are covered at Spano now - huge improvement.

Definitely stay on the first floor - - Field one you walk through the warm-up cages that are on the left (after teams are on the field) and there's a nice row of seats in the outfield that offer excellent views. You can also move down a little on that same side of the building to get a view of the action on field two.

For a field two outfield view, walk to the right as you come in - again staying on the first level, past the team dugout, pass the stairs and there's nice seating there as well. That's a bring your own chair situation.

Our son is in a wheelchair and we've been able to watch games on both fields very easily.

Watch out if anybody has breathing problems going there. Take breaks and go outside. I loved watching the girls play there until one of my girls had an asthma attack. The dust mixed with wet and cold. It can get miserable on the eyes as well.

Disclaimer-It's been about 4 years since I have been there. They may have put in a better vent system. I love the playing on dirt, but for the best actual great experience, I would always choose the pinnacle over Spano. JMHO

I was there two years ago. It was my first time. My daughter and son both had asthma attcks as well as got very sick with sinus infections when we got back home. I had other friends who were there the week before us and the same happened with them.
I call it the old rodeo pit.
We had lawn chairs and kept the same seats on the ground level the whole time. Very crowded though.

The new dirt has made a huge difference. I've had no asthma problems this year.
