jasbo, I agree completely about teams utilizing friendlies to become better, and that networking is very common in the travel ball world.

My point was about the use of social netorking sites to thump oneselves chests when the results were favorable, but not the same when they weren't.

i was recently on a 16u 18u thread talking to some parents and coaches and i remarked to them how it was funny at 10u and 12u there is always drama and controversies and at older ages are quiet just find it funny although i admit i enjoy reading the little spats back and forth it is good adult entertainment.the bad thing is there are alot of dd s on here as well that may read them as well and not sure that always sends right message.we are all little guilty of myself included

I see what you are saying about Twitter, but that is an extension of our web site - we use it for our teams to communicate (each team has one if they want it) our first priority for it is to communicate with our families thru it...

It is not a general public site like OFC - our Twitter Page is ours - it only has Hawks info on it. And yes we promote our girls good play and teams wins or good finishes in a tourney.

I don't see any other team web site that promotes their teams bad loses or bad weekends. And why would they? Our web sites are for promoting the good things our girls accomplish thru out the year.

We have many good friends / close families on the Lasers Red and I want to see them do well - they work hard and train with the same instructors we do. We committed to playing them a lot this spring to better ourselves and better them thru our play and pitching.

They are also the best of the best at our level and when any of our teams play them close or win against them we want to share it with our organization.

In this thread, Les - rightfully, was promoting the Static win(s) - showing pride in his organization - I don't see anything wrong with that at all ... I never saw it as chest thumping.

Bill and I talked even about it this week - he understands that for us it was important that we see if we can play with them and to know that are team played 5 solid innings with the Lasers - even if it is a friendly - and that their training is starting to pay off...

If we could not give them a good game and even win a few occasionally, then they would have no interest in scrimmaging us as much - and that hurts our ability to improve and get comfortable playing at the Laser level. I am just glad that Bill thinks enough of our pitching and club to want to play us and that he is helping his team in doing so.

I hope I did not offend anyone over at Static Nation - Lester and I have a great relationship - but he wants to beat me every time we play and I want us to win just as much.. in the end, it has made us both better teams and coaches as well.

I only see somewhat what you are saying about Twitter being an extension of your website, being as you have a link on your homepage. But, there are a lot of ways to communicate with your families, and I wouldn't think you would rely on Twitter as the primary way.

As far as Twitter not being a general public site like OFC, I'd have to disagree. Anyone can go to your page and sign up as a "follower". It is no less public than Facebook. I signed up as a follower just to hopefully get up to date tourney scores, etc. What I found was that it only communicated the positive, i.e. winning scores. I guess I should have just found out how to become an un-follower since I was looking for ALL scores.

I have no problems admitting that we lost to the Lasers Red, and there is certainly no shame in that since they are an absolute quality team, and a class act.

They are definitely one of the best at the 12U level, but the best of the best will be better able to be defined in late July or so after everyone has a chance to play one another a few times. They absolutely deserved the win today, and the Static congratulates them.

LOL - just ask any Hawk parent about communication ... we use one-call, email, twitters, our site and more... Our parents kid me that we probably over communicate - but with 148 families - we have to.

We wanted to use Twitter that way to publish the scores of our tourney's but it never seems to work out - even during our last indoor 12u - we could not get scores online here or twitter - something we have to work on...

We promote organization events, big wins, and activities along with Facebook - most of our teams have a Facebook site set-up to promote their team - and our web site thanks to Jay really is a good tool as well.

Nothing wrong with what you did. You guy's should be proud of a well played good win regardless of what others think.

And you are correct how many people get on OFC Twitter or Website and say Ya we lost 15-0 in three today very excited about only losing by 15 ??????????

At GAPSS last year we lost 7-0 to the Lasers, and something like 6-0 to the Nitro ... we were fired up about that - frankly, avoiding a RR was our goal - this year we intend on getting a couple wins at this level - next year at 12u - we want to win a lot - that is our 2 year goal and where we expect to be. Merlion and I have been PMing (all good) - Static Black is a good 12u team and everyone will want to know how they measure up in their big games - we had that last year - it puts a target on your back - the Lasers have it every week - teams measure their success on how well they play them. It's just the way it is.

Point made!

social networking: it is your story, tell it your way.

Merlion you need to read over this thread and practice what you preach. I say this with all do respect but you seem bothered about teams self promoting after a win but their non disclosure of losses. We heard from you at 9ish AM after your first elimination game win but nothing at all on your loss.

I did not even have to sign up as a follower to put that together, got it on OFC :) You seem like good people Merlion but this one was teed up

Congrats to the Laser's Red on their win against us & the championship as well. Excellent played game by them!!! My team learned a lesson this weekend, you have to come to play every pitch, every inning of every game. We will use this at a continued teaching tool all year long.

Looking forward to getting outside permanently & away from those darn ceiling nets :)

Yes, I did report at 9:00 A.M.ish that we won the previous night. then we needed to check out of the hotel at 11:00 and get something to eat before heading to the facility to prepare for our 2:40 P.M. game. I did not have access to a computer until we got back home last night.

My first post then was to congratulate the Lasers on a well deserved tournament championship. Someone then asked what the score was between the lasers and Static, but someone else answered before I got back in front of the computer to answer myself. that was no problem, and I acknowleged the fact that the score was correct, and made light of the high interest in that game more than the actual championship game.

I do not have a problem with self promoting a win. My comment was more directed towards the reporting of a friendly result, since they are supposed to be more about working on various aspects of one's game, and experimenting, than actually looking at them as wins and losses. That's all, and I apologize if I ruffled any feathers.

Maybe I am twisting it a bit Merlion but as with anything on the internet, allot is open to the interpretation of the reader.

I am sure all Ohio teams mentioned in this thread will have successful seasons. The best thing about 10 and 12u is there is no high school black out period. Your outdoor season is only weeks away.

Good luck to all in 2010 and beyond!

All superior teams mentioned and argueing on here, cant we all just get along? My team is better than yours, no, my team is better than yours - this is what it sounds like - 2 yr olds fighting. Everybody knows the lasers, statics, indy dreams, nitro, hawks, buckeye heats, stingrays, ohio waves, etc. are all good teams but somebody has to lose - does not mean they are a better team than you BUT they were a better team than you that day. GOODLUCK TO ALL THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
