What unwritten rule does this cover. These guy's would never play again for me.

With pinpoint control like that. This kid was probably getting squeezed all game and since the written rule is don't argue balls and strikes he resorted to the unwritten rule. Dead-center in the mask. :lmao:

I would question the obvious-ness of the unwritten rule execution however.

Never did it myself - joked about doing it a couple times with my catcher but never found myself in that situation where I ever was that frustrated.

What do you figure happened next?

If any of my players hit a player on purpose and I knew about it I would immediately put her on the bench to wait for a discussion after the game. If a player of mine intentionally hit a person in the facemask then I would possibly suspend her for a period of time. Don't mess with the head and neck area.

The stealing signs, etc. discussion is one thing, but hitting a player on purpose is another. I never did it nor will I allow any of my kids.

If my daughter is directed to do it by their coach when in MS or HS then that would be a hard choice for them to make. It wasn't for me personally but I can see how it could be for a school age kid.

No coach I know would ever call for a bean-ball - that's crazy. Those are player decisions.

I know everyone is getting bent out of shape about the inhumanity of the supposed 'unwritten rules', but to me growing up it was what made the game of baseball great.

There was no OFC to get on and complain about why a coach called a squeeze play being up by 10 runs. Or why a batter stood and watched a homerun land on the other side of the fence before starting to slowly jog ever so slowly around the bases and showing up your pitcher. You just didn't do those things and if you did there were likely consequences (and it wasn't a OFC bad post).

If you don't get it or can't imagine it, I understand. I also understand that women's softball isn't men's baseball. But I would say - let's just pretend like it is and play with civility and our games will be much more enjoyable. Of course that would result in a lot less 'Can you believe...' posts on OFC Monday mornings.
