After the debockle at Tealtown and reading all the posts about how bad the NSA is - Will you still go to the World Series ?? Kinda curious to see the opinions. I know we are still going because we had to have our check in before the NSA States. HMMM funny how that worked out :-?

Hey Vip 22 --The golden rope around everyone's neck was that they held the WS hostage until you hung around to play on sunday at states. Lots of folks were ready to tell the NSA state tourney to stick it but were told "you no show us this weekend and we will not let you in the WS, even if you have already quailfied " , which we had. I'd be willing to play else where if our team has not already paid. Would be a shame , we have looked towards that event all year ---just as we had looked at states as the 2nd biggest and best tourney. Yeal right ! But you screw me once , I should know better the next time. MD

Our team is going to decide shortly weather we'll be attending. In the 2009 season we will not play in any NSA tournaments.

It's sad that John DeLuca and Lisa Simpson do not know the NSA rules for state tournaments. It states that you can have time limits on games, but once the time has expired you finish the inning. If the game is tied, then you go to the International Tie Breaker Rule...and it's not the rule that they used this past weekend.

The State Commissioners didn't know the rules and they made up there own rules to keep all the fees. I bet that 14 year old girl they sent out to talk to the coaches instead of them, even knew the rules. Why our State Directors hid behind closed doors, They were working on a plan to save all teams on gas to and from the fields.

My neck is sore from shaking my head all weekend, but we have planned all year to go to Illinois. We are going to turn the page and make it a good experience for the girls at nationals.

When you must play the NSA states to have the right to go to the World Series that you already qualified for why should they work hard to put on a quality event? They already have you by the short hairs. As mentioned above they also already have most peoples entry fees. It will take some major cleaning up to make this stain go away.

call me stat-optimist-prime if you will, but the NSa world series surely can't be as bad as the treatment at Tealtown...to think otherwise is just wishing for foul treatment...as for other NSA tourneys, I can't say that I've had a real bad taste for it, just business as usual....it's unfortunate for NSA that Tealtown jacked things up, i still don't think it's NSA's problem more so than it is Tealtowns....in a few more years, i might think different, maybe I don't know any better

Could not agree more!

NSA Rule #5 sec 3 & 4 gives you all the info you need, which specifies state tournament play, with time limits >:(...looked it up after we traveled 3 hrs to returned home after playing a total of 110 minutes of ball in 3 days in which the girls did not give up a single run >:( >:( >:(!

With the way they broke the rules, doesn't that give everyone of these teams (111) a bid to the WS...rules must be followed...are we here for the girls or the all mighty dollar? if its the girls NSA STATES cheated everyone of them! GIVE EVERYONE A BID!

*disclaimor* I was not there so I will not claim to have any answers and will not even try to defend this tournament.

With that being said, the best way to make your voices heard is to start an e-mail campaign with the Zone VP and President/CEO of NSA. Bill Horton is the Zone VP nsareg5@aol.com and Hugh Cantrell's e-mail is HughCantrellNSA@aol.com. Parents, coaches, and especially players should write both of these folks and let them know how you feel.

The reason for this is I know for a fact that Lisa Simpson and John Deluca do not read this forum or even post there tournaments in the tournament section on OFC. They will not be reading any of these comments and will not know your pain from this past weekend. Bill Horton and Hugh Cantrell have to answer your e-mails. They would not be giving any customer service if they didn't.

Now please do not pile on me as I am only trying to give you a hint to make your voices heard. I was not there and can not even fathom what anyone involved went thru. I was in Cincinnati on Friday at 1PM for the Reds game and we were on rain delay until close to 3 PM. It was grey all day, but that was to the east of us which is where many of you were on Friday.

Thanks Mike Craig - Columbus Ohio

2008 NSA

Sec. 3 A regulation game shall consist of seven (7) innings.
a. A full seven (7) innings need not be played if the home team
(the team second at bat) scores more runs in six innings or
before the third out of the seventh inning.
EXCEPTION: The NSA will use the 12, 10 and 8 run rule in
all tournament play. If one team is 12, 10 or 8 runs ahead after
3, 4 or 5 innings, or after 2?, 3? or 4? innings, if the home
team is ahead by 12, 10 or 8 or more runs respectively, the team
with the 12, 10 or 8 run lead shall be the winner.
b. A game that is tied at the end of seven innings will use the tiebreaking
rule. This would involve the last batter of the previous
inning whose turn at bat had been completed, assuming a
position on second base. This would be done at the beginning of
each half inning until, at the conclusion of a full inning a winner
is determined. A game that is tied at the end of the time limit
must complete the full inning if the time elapses during any part
of an inning.
NOTE: The NSA recommends a one hour and thirty minute
(1:30) time limit in NIT, State, Regional, and World Series
Tournaments (in youth play only).
In the Fastpitch &
Modified Program, a one hour and forty-five minute (1:45) time
limit is recommended. No new inning (top of the inning) will
start after the allotted time limit has expired. Once an inning
begins, that inning must be completed unless the home team is
ahead when the time expires. The visiting teams one half inning
must be completed.

It's apparent that the NSA made a ton of mistakes...if we all boycott NSA tournaments next year, maybe they willget the picture. ?I don't feel this is as much tealtowns fault as it is the NSA. ?They knew what they were doing. ?The thing that makes me the most ticked Off is charging the parents a gate fee, and then not giving any money back when teams didn't play or were only there for 1 game. ?What a waste!!!! NO more NSA for us!

I was in a grocery store, IN TOLEDO, last night and my DD had her Stingrays shirt on. Someone came up to us and asked if we were in Cincy last weekend. When we replied yes, she went on for 10 minutes about what a cluster**** that tournament was. I'm glad by wife was there to experience all the "FUN", and not me. Pretty bad black eye for the NSA when people are talking about it a week later in a city at the other end of the state.

I understand everyone's frustation with the NSA and Tealtown this past weekend. I fortunately live in the Cincy area and didn't have to drive far or stay overnight anywhere, still had the shortened games though and lack of communication issues. I can see how everyone wants to boycott, but what about the NSA tournaments that actual do a good job and are ran by organizations? Do we boycott them just because they are associated with NSA. The one that comes to mind is OFC Heatin' It Up. I have been to this event the last 2 years and they have done an outstanding job. Both years have had rain issues and they have worked through it and still got all the games in.

Hey Doomer I agree with you big time. OFC Heatin' It Up is one of my fav's. They do a great job and its now in a great park. I posted earlier how it would be nice if they could switch to a different sanctioning body because I like the idea of a NSA boycott but if they can't or won't I hope our team is there again next year. Hopefully that is our only NSA event. But being just a parent I go where the schedule tells us to be. :D

If you are a TD for a NSA tourney, maybe you should turn the heat up on NSA officials. They sure are not listening to us.

I emailed several people from the Tealtown website, NSA Ohio website and NSA national. I got 3 responses. In one of them from a NSA Ohio person, I was scolded for thinking only about my team!! He also suggested I volunteer my time to help softball players so maybe I would understand. I wanted to give him a few suggestions, but instead refered him to OFC !!

Please email any address you can at NSA Ohio's website. Maybe they will get the hint it was not just me and my team. I will gladly post emails if you need them!

We played only one NSA tourney this year, the Sunraze Slam, and it was run PERFECTLY. The rest of our season has been comprised of ASA qualifiers. Every one of them, with the exception of the Pre-season Classic (Toledo) and Lady Bear(Strongsville), have used some form of hybrid rules. We have experience NSA rules for pool play then ASA rules for brackets, USSSA for pool and first round of brackets then ASA for Semi & Finals games.

This is the first time since I have been involved in JO that this has been so wide spread. I feel that all the major (popular) governing bodies need to ensure that the TD's are adhering to the rules. We played in a ASA/USA qualifier that allowed teams to bat 11 and only provided a single umpire for pool play.

It's clear by now that NSA will do nothing to fix its own problems. Although I won't be running the Buckeye Heat next year, I am going to be strongly advising the organization to no longer play NSA tournaments. This will be an inconvenience at times, but it's time that teams and organizations publicly take a stand.

This is unfortunate for some of the organizations that do a good job running NSA tournaments like the Sunraze, but hopefully it will send the necessary message.

What other teams and organizations are willing to take the same stand?

I had spoken with some of the local umpire group that went down to work states and got pretty much the same stories and was told they will be thinking carefully about how much they work NSA next year between the lines. ?:-[

I sent my own e-mail to our Zone VP asking for an explanation on Monday and have gotten no answer, explanation, or even a "mind your own business" response either. ? I can tell you that I will not be affiliated with the NSA after July 31. I have a commttment to run a slow-pitch last chance tournament on July 26 and after that is finished, so am I with these folks.

I do not claim to be perfect (the lord knows that I am not), but I have tried to learn from my mistakes over the years and run better tournaments in the process, I can not represent an organization that would willfully stick it to its customers like what happened last weekend. If my employer did that (think "Life comes at you fast") , we would have so many regulatory agencies come down hard on us and it would be a giant black eye and quite costly for all involved. The worst thing would be that we would lose our customers and with out them, I am unemployed.

I have been involved with the N$A first as a player shortly out of high school since 1985, as an umpire since 1989, as tournament director since 1995 and as an area director since 1998. I was our zone director of the year for 2003 and have hosted over 15 state tournaments, 15 NIT's, 10 regionals, 4 worlds, and have been an age group coordinator for the tournament committee of the last 2 Columbus Fast-Pitch World Series. That is over a 20 year affiliation of some sort and this is like a slow painful divorce, but it has to be done. :(

Johnnies, how do I have my name changed without losing my links or posts?
