have a question about subbing in an ASA qualifier and need a pretty quick answer, hoping someone can help me out.
DD is on a 16u team, already played one fall tourney. have a buddy that has a 14u team that needs pitching help in an upcoming tourney.
is it legal for the DD to play down to 14u after playing in a 16u tourney? she is still 14, just playing up on the 16u team.
don't want to get anyone pinched for a rules infraction, want to do this the right way. of course it is all dependent on whether her current coach
is ok with the whole deal, just want to find out the legalities of it all.

I believe if she plays in an ASA/USA qualifier and the team she is subbing for wins the berth she could be locked into this roster. I'm sure there are ways to get out of it but that's the short quick answer you are looking for.

There are some unique aspects to Fall qualifiers.

1. Players not only have to be age-eligible for the qualifier, they also have to be age eligible for the event they're trying to qualify. If it's for an event next year (e.g. 2015 14U Nationals), she also needs to be 14U eligible next year.

2. ASA still runs on a calendar year, so players are not locked onto the roster when the new year starts. Teams that qualify in the fall have to meet the same returning player requirements to keep their berth as teams that earn a berth by finishing 1st or 2nd at nationals.

SoCal. So does that mean the team is not eligible to play in nationals in 2015 even though they qualified or that the player is ineligible to play at nationals with that 14u team in 2015?

According to ASA Code, she's not eligible to play in the qualifier if she isn't eligible for 14U next year. From Article 308.A:

Local Associations may conduct JO qualifying tournaments for the following years championship play. Teams that participate in these tournaments must use age eligible players for the year the championship play will be played and must meet the returning team requirement to maintain their berth.
