SWO Fall Ball-Who's doin' what?

Since we are moving up to 11u (12u-I know) we are in need of working out the changes as quick as can. Who's going where and what do you older teams/coaches suggest for us to begin getting a good league to play in? Not looking to play all the time but in a league to get the girls exposure to the larger ball, 5' distance change on the mound, and playing at the more aggressive level.

Pisgah league? Dayton league(s)? Other SWO leagues? Pastime League? Rivershore League? I don't want this to become a bashing for different ball parks, I know about the issues all too well. Let's focus on where you really think you will go so we can all get a decent situation put together.

Who's interested in joining Brent Moore's new league we met about earlier this year? Gotta have some teams to commit for that to happen, just like always if we sit back to see who signs up...., the game of wait and see will get us a good ticket to missin' the train...

I have the capacity to form a league for travel teams in Lebanon if that is a central location for any teams. I will be playing doubleheaders on Saturdays (6 weeks) with an end of season single elim.

Thanks Jim for posting the details. We will seriously consider this. Please keep the teams attending out there for us. How many teams did you have last year? Hope to get some more chatter on this post so our team can decide soon.

Over the years my experience has been that Fall leagues has not helped us much. With so many teams around anymore its real easy to get together every weekend with a few other quality teams and play a few friendlies. That way your not tied down to a league that may or may not have the level of competition that you are looking for. If you pick the opponents you normally know what your getting. We have been in some leagues in the past that were more like Red All star at beast and did little to challenge our travel team.

I would suggest that if you do decide to play in a Fall league play up at least one age group. Even if your entire team is 11 years old you will have success vs. most 14 year old Fall league teams. Just thought I would give you my two cents after we learned the hard way two seasons in a row.

we did play some 14-15 yr olds last year, not by design, and understand your point. Your 2 cents may save me some $$$. Thanks and we'll dig into that thought some more. I have good relationships with the other 10u's moving up so this might be the plan.

I only throw it out there because we learned the hard way. We wanted our travel team to get some good work in and thought that Fall ball would give us plenty of games. Well nobody gets better winning 20-0 all the time.

I like Fall ball in general especially as a way to get new players introduced to the game. The problem is that many of the leagues are filled with the majority of these players and a few travel players on each team. By the end of the season the travel players defect because the level of play is not what they are looking for. Play friendlies with teams that are known to be better then yours and play challenged al the time. This is what they do in California, and in the south west. No such thing as fall ball for travel ball players. You have to be on a different level if you expect the players to be.

I feel fall ball is good for the sport and player in general.
Players get better by playing games especially at the younger ages. The more they play games the better player they will be.
Naturally the better the completion the more the players will get out of it.
I have heard the saying ?there is no competition in fall leagues? and this may be true for some teams however; unless you are run ruling your opponent in three innings there is room for improvement.
Like Les, I would like to see more teams/organizations in our area commit to playing in the fall this would make the leagues stronger and more of a value to the teams.
Regardless, I love to coach and the girls love to PLAY so, we will be in a fall league somewhere playing up as usual LOL.

I like using FallBall to get players time at other positions. For example, having your SS play a little LF helps them appreciate what goes on directly behind them duruing a game in terms of action, responsibility, etc. Giving girls multiple perspectives on games can make them much wiser athletes in the field. Hopefully that makes sense. :)

Anyone have an idea of what teams are playing where in the fall league?
CCAA (Mt Healthy/ Springfield TWP)
Pastime Park (Harrison)
SDS (Middletown)
Lebanon
Rivershore (Hebron Ky)

I could find little fall info on Rivershore, CCAA or Pastime.
SDS & Lebanon has done a good job of posting information on cost start date etc what teams do you have?
:)

We will be playing in a U16/18 fall league.

Even though our girls are 15/16 they have been playing a lot of U16 for the past two years so, I just am looking for a league that has a variety of teams with Comparable experience.
My girls come from all over so the park is not as much as an issue as the quality of play.:)
I am not sure if I will do two leagues or a league and set up scrimmages.
This will depend on cost and location.

we like Beavercreek, is it at Rotary Park? Where's the info on this league?

We are also tenative on the CCAA league. Also tossing around the idea of friendlies with teams like the Hawks, OFC Heat, and anyone else in our area.

Hey Les - you go to Beavercreek and we will to... OR I can get Smith Park and we can do 2-3 mini-tourney's with 2 other 11u teams - 3 games a day - pay a single umpire... what do you think? That way we can be flexible on dates/times to fit our teams better...

I like flexibility. We can make this work. Keeps the costs down too. The park is great (as your tourney has proven) and should be a good thing if we can get teams like OFC or the new DOOM 11u. That will help keep our costs down. Let's see who else we can get.
