i usually let out a nice grunt when the concession stand is out of walking tac o's!

My DD doesn't grunt, but for some reason my nose does on our way home. Man that kid's feet stink!

It just seems like a good idea - I recall that tennis did a study and documented that the grunting added nothing to the speed of the balls being hit. So, let's go to having pitchers just pitch, and not vocalize.

Or, we could require batters to scream with every swing...

"If" you have ever seen or played at at any high level sporting events you would find that grunting is natural... Most that have martial arts training understand the energy increase with a good grunt....

My dd has grunted since the day she started pitching. At first she tried not to grunt but she finally gave up and decided she would just deal with it. Not a learned technique, just comes naturally. I've noticed she now grunts while hitting as well. She's also a very gassy kid, maybe there's a connection?

Nobody minds a little grunt from exertion but we all know that many are trying to do it on purpose.
I have seen many that if that is a real grunt of exertion they should check their mechanics and probably see a physician.
Also if pushing off the mound and snapping is requiring a grunt like that you should be worn out after 10 pitches.
Weightlifters do this but they are only lifting it once or a few times and putting a heck of alot more exertion than pitching.

I think there are a few causes for this becoming prevalent.
They copy what they see on TV.
It impresses dad and makes dad feel like she is going all out. And what girl doesnt want her dad impressed

In short I think the loud grunts are pointless and annoying. If you were hitting and right when the ball came people yelled "look out!"
that would make you made. To me is very much the same.
