Pitching and Pitchers Discussion The Strike Zone?

It is supposed to be standing position so as not to be able to do the "crouch" but the real strike zone is what each ump calls that day and the catcher needs to adjust to it and let the pitcher know where it is that game. How many games have you seen it shrink later in the game?

It is "natural batting stance" which means prepared to swing at a pitch. If the batter normally swings in a crouch, a la Pete Rose, they get the benefit of the smaller strike zone. They don't get the benefit if they are in an unnatural stance to draw a walk.

Some batters do themselves a disservice by standing up when taking a high pitch. They should help the umpire make the correct call by holding their stance until the pitch goes past them.
