think before running up the score...

I am sorry but that is just funny to me.

Granted 91-0 is a pounding but the other coach (losing coach) did not feel the other team was running it up. Said the starters only played 21 plays and they ran the ball the whole second half. But I do like the bully complaint.

I say it would be easier to issue this one parent a perma-ban on sports in general. Why affect everyone else with your unhappiness? It sounds like the winning teams coach at least pumped the brake pedal early on. It was also a perfect opportunity to get his 3rd string into game situations. He wasn't hired to make opposing teams feel good at all costs.

Of course, its this sort of subversive nonsense that is necessary to sell the public on all sorts of political failure to come.

Our football team does this.. Our starters play 1st half then 2nd unit plays late 2nd or all of 3rd quarter...and if scores is getting out of hand our freshman team gets the red zone plays so if scores are high. It's because you ****.

would you be more embarrassed by the score or someone's mommy and daddy brought unwanted attention to you?

Some parents are just idiots.

[I hope I don't get sued for "bullying" because of the above comment.]

True "bullying" is a serious issue; claiming your child was bullied becasue they got beat in a ball game is just stupid.

What kind of P*** are we trying to raise here!? That is one of those parents that will never be happy with anything. I feel really sorry for their son because he is growing up with mommy or daddy always making excuses for him. When this kid get's to the real world he has got a very rude awakening coming. This story is Sad, Funny, disgusting etc...

Having coached and played on teams getting this sort of drubbing, I would much prefer the other team beat us 91/zip then to be treated like a weak-sister and have them take a knee -
For gosh sakes; take the wopin' and learn from it - Don't complain about it, who the heck will that help?

I have seen this discussed all over the web and I honestly keep coming back to the same thought. If the coach who was losing felt strongly about the issue, he could have pulled his team off the field at any point. Why does it have to be the coach who is winning to pull his players and/or control the score. From what I have read both coaches did the right thing. The winning coach allowed his backups to play and play hard because they have practiced hard also as well as doing what he could to limit the score without making his players take a knee. The losing coach sent his players the right message by not letting them quit, but instead sending them out there to battle and compete against adversity. I am extremely glad that I am almost done with youth sports.

last year as a freshman my son had to wrestle the big boys (some even had a tatoos) at 205 and sure enought he got his a$$ kicked. in one memorable match he was on his back for 3 periods and with 10 seconds left he miraculously reveresed his opponent and pinned him (of course i posted this event);& before the reverse i was proud of him lasting for the full match let alone win. I have to say when his athletic career is all over this may be the one the biggest highlites of his career. Win or lose lesson learned...either give up or continue fighting and see what your made of.

that kid whose parents are suing needs to cut the cord...

DD learned more from the A$$ kicking she got from teams last year then she did from the 2-1 wins, no doubt.

when playing rec bball as a kid we got whooped 121-12!!!! We got scheduled as 13u's vs 18u's... we played it anyway and the shellacking was unreal. We got dunked on 15-20 times! Well.... low and behold we got nailed again with poor scheduling against this same team 4 weeks later. We won! On our home court! And we played with our same squad. So, **** it up and move on. It's a game and if handled properly you are just out gunned sometimes and the scores fall badly at times. It happens. Love that the other coach didn't have an issue with this 91-0 score. Enough said.

Looking back we were involved in some lop sided games and "not all the time is it the fault ofthe winning team running up the score".

We played in a fall DH league at 13U that was open 13U to 18U. I had a school function and the assistant coach was sick one game so, I had the wife and another parent run things.

Unfortunately we were playing a good 18U team in the second game and the ladies got hammered 33-3.The ladies were very POd and bounced back strong the next two weeks waiting to play them again. We lost the second game against them 5-4 but the ladies felt good about the turn around and how hard they played them.

This year in the HS playoffs the lady CARDS took some flack over the 31-0 pasting of Cincy West High.
This was one of those games that the coaches did hold back but still let the ladies play...by removing the starters for reserves the rest of the game after two innings of play.

Western hills did not look to motivated from the beginning waiting until 20min before game time to get off the bus with the 10 players that was dressed in shorts and razor back uniforms on a rainy 50+ degree day... They had one coach and it looked like they had three bats. for the team... So it was obvious early on it could be ugly...

The umpires met with both coaches after the 1
st inning to allow the WEST HIGH pitcher to just throw anyway she wanted so they could stop calling illegal pitches.
After 15 runs in the first and it was basically over but we had to play a few more innings to make it official.

Starters all bunted in the second inning resaulting in 6 more runs scored in the inning that ended with runners stepping off the bases. The Coach removed all starters and put in the bench that finished up the game. Coach still had people complain when the score was reported to the paper...Those that was at the game know the score could have been much much worse a lot like several of the football scores....

Know where you want to go. Do not dream about it plan for it.Set goals and Make It Happen!

The kid may never get to know the real world. Mommy and daddy will still be cooking his/her meals, paying for the cell phone, and tucking him/her in at night when he/she is 35.

Penn State may want to think about filing a bullying complaint after that whoopin on Saturday night.

This is typical of our society now. I don't like it so someone else is to blame and we should use legislation to not let this happen. Someone got hurt so we should change everything because a few people had an issue. By the time I am very old I probably wont even recognize some sports they will be so dumbed down. I will say that I am old school in that a coach should let off the gas in a respectful manner when it is lopsided. If indeed the coach did that then it is what it is. If they were trying to see if they could score 100 then respect for the coach drops in my mind. Regardless to claim bullying is outrageous.

Not sure what is wrong with teams scoring points and runs, your not killing anyone. Yes there is a point you call off the dogs, but don't criticize a team that has their players prepared. Biggest thing I hate too now, is how we can't keep score at showcases, who was the idiot that came up with this idea, you can showcase players and still try to win the game.

Believe me- anyone who was at that game, winner and loser, the ump's, fans and college scouts all know the "score." The only people who don't know the score were those who weren't at the game, so if you really need to know who won, ask someone who was there. Think of it as a NFL preseason game--who really gives a cr@p what the score was, it doesn't count!
