"I came home to find out that my boys received two trophies for nothing, participation trophies! While I am very proud of my boys for everything they do and will encourage them till the day I die, these trophies will be given back until they EARN a real trophy. I'm sorry I'm not sorry for believing that everything in life should be earned and I'm not about to raise two boys to be men by making them believe that they are entitled to something just because they tried their best...cause sometimes your best is not enough, and that should drive you to want to do better...not cry and whine until somebody gives you something to shut u up and keep you happy. #harrisonfamilyvalues"

Steelers' James Harrison Makes Sons Return Trophies

When it comes to hard work, Steelers linebacker James Harrison is old school. We've seen it countless times, whether it's in the weight room, on the volleyball court or even while cutting grass.

Not surprisingly, this old-school mentality extends beyond the workplace and into Harrison's home. And here's the proof, via his latest Instagram post:

"I came home to find out that my boys received two trophies for nothing, participation trophies! While I am very proud of my boys for everything they do and will encourage them till the day I die, these trophies will be given back until they EARN a real trophy. Right over here!
Great post.. No participation ribbons for one and done on a Sunday!

I am not sure there is a better place, for a girl who loves fastpitch, to learn the lesson "sometimes your best is not enough"

Working hard and picking up a trophy late on Sunday is what I am talking about!

But never a steelers fan...

There's always hope!

A.) Come over to the Dark Side, we have cookies.

B.) Once you go Black (& Gold) you never go back. (I converted my wife over 20 years ago.)

Good lesson for parents more so than players at times. Players usually know who the best on the team are, its the parents that need to accept it.

Or start your own team.

But not a Steeler Fan either.

Also, The Bengals realized James Harrison wasn't a good fit when he refused the consolation trophy Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis had made for him and his teammates for making the playoffs.

NOT a Steelers fan but I LOVED this story.
Trophy's, along with "A's", scholarships, and jobs, should be earned. Recognition just for being on the team is just silly!

The practice squad player earns a paycheck weekly and only practices. Should he get recognized with a superbowl ring? Or should the losers of a playoff game who earned that spot through the regular season receive participation pay for losing also paid by the league. I agree with Harrison to an extent .I believe kids will figure this out as they progress in there sports and academic careers.
