Tools & Resources for Coaches

Hi guys, I know it's been a while since I've been around. Looks like I haven't logged in since I stepped down as coach at Wheeling Jesuit University. I just wanted to update everyone on some things I've been doing and share some projects and resources I'm involved with. Hopefully the admins don't flag this for spam.

I've been spending a lot of time working in social media and networking as well as web and mobile applications. This came about when I started my CoachBook website four and a half years ago. CoachBook is a social networking platform designed to share information with coaches. You can check it out at www.mycoachbook.com. While the majority of our membership is football coaches, we try to share resources that are valuable for coaches of all sports.

CoachBook has led me to a lot of great opportunities. The one that I most excited about is the work I am doing with the American Society for Quality (ASQ). ASQ is a non-profit organization that develops quality control protocols for organizations in education, government, manufacturing, and healthcare. They have recently developed a group for athletics and coaches. We are currently developing a body of knowledge that includes tools and resources that coaches can use to ensure they are using quality methods in their coaching. I am the Director of Education for the Quality in Athletics group. I assist in developing the tools and resources for sport coaches and will provide training to coaching staffs and athletic departments at the professional, collegiate, and high school levels. You can check out one of our resources, "Heart of Excellence" here - Quality In Athletics Interest Group | ASQ. You can sign up for free to access the material.

Two individuals that I am excited to be working with, and whom I'm trying to bring on board to this ASQ project are Dr. Chris Stankovich and Jeremy Boone. Some of you may know Dr. Stankovich as his office is in Columbus and he has presented at the state softball clinic in the past. He has a lot of awesome articles and tools on his website that coaches and parents need to check out - www.drstankovich.com.

I actually just met Jeremy Boone yesterday. He is an internationally recognized performance coach, speaker, best-selling author, researcher, and consultant. He has a series of ebooks for coaches, parents, and athetes, and hosts a podcast about "Coaching Your Best." For more information visit www.athletebydesign.com.

A few other projects I am working on dealing with web and mobile applications:

Lockr- www.getlockr.com
I am assisting Lockr in the development , marketing, and promotion of their web application. It is still in the very early stages of release. Lockr is a revolutionary, web-based sports coaching tool that's designed to "Track, Organize, and Measure Coaching Effectiveness." Not only does Lockr help you become a better coach, it has built-in functionality that allows you to share and exchange information with other coaches. Through Lockr's social media function, you can communicate directly with staff, share files, and discuss ideas with colleagues. You can also view live feeds from other coaches, follow their activities, and send and receive messages. The product is geared toward football coaches, but can be used for any sport. You can sign up for the free version to test it out.

Sideline Agency - www.sidelineagency.com
I am also assisting Sideline Agency in the development, marketing, and promotion of their mobile application program. Sideline Agency develops custom mobile apps for athletic programs and youth leagues. We are a growing mobile development team with a focus on building apps that help programs with community interaction and fundraising efforts. We offer teams the ability to create a web portal that will develop a free website that can be published as a mobile app for a monthly fee. Use referral code "coachbook" to try it out for free.

Coach Contacts - Coach Contacts is a simple on-the-go college coach address book application for recruits, parents, and coaches.
I am strictly an affiliate partner with Coach Contacts. I downloaded the app and really loved it and asked if I could promote it thru my CoachBook network. Coach Contacts is a mobile app that has email addresses and phone #'s for every college coach in the country--all sports and all divisions. It's a great tool for those involved in the recruiting process. If you decide to download it, I'd appreciate it if you use the link above. All proceeds help keep the CoachBook site up and running.

Even with all of this stuff going on, I still provide individual skill instruction as well as strength and speed training. Unfortunately, my MAXX Training website crashed a while back and I lost a lot of the programs that I offered at no charge. I do have a lot of the programs on my hard drive if anyone is looking for strength and conditioning info for softball/baseball.

If anyone has any questions about anything or needs any further information on any of these resources, please msg me here, or email me at billvasko@gmail.com. You can also add me on LinkedIn at www.linkedin.com/in/billvasko/ or follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/coachbook.
