Unfair coaches and how to deal with them.

The advice we gave our kid is, worry about what you can control. You can’t control when you sit while others aren’t performing or what the coach decides to do. you can control how you respond and what you do IF and when you are given a chance.

Don’t drive yourself crazy trying to figure it out. Could be anything. Some things just aren’t fair.

My daughter asked what was going on and coach didn’t have any answers. Said there was nothing she could do better and admits he knows she can make the plays and even told her she’s been impressive. Basically, made his choice no matter how it affects the team or his players. Definitely has us scratching our heads. As I suspect it’s probably political.

From your posts it seems like all that could be done was done. If I could be so bold, I'd like to share some of my thoughts on the matter.

If playing school ball is important to your daughter, I suggest evaluating the situation moving forward. Take a look at the current roster situation and spot the seniors. Plan for next season. Those seniors will be gone and those positions open. Start now to work on the skills needed to play those positions and continue to work on her hitting. She needs to be a well-rounded hitter and prolific at bunting. Work on running technique. Many girls by nature have poor running mechanics. Practice running bases and sliding. These skills alone could help her get into a position of a pinch runner. She can target the tryouts next season to earn her way into the active line up in a vacated position.

Remember, she needs to be able to out-hit, out-run, and out-play the others to insure her best chance to be where she wants to be. If you want to know more from us on what a coach is looking for, feel free to ask. Our opinions are just that---free.

I suppose the only question I have is should she ask for a meeting with the coach? She knows she is the better player, so what does she even say to them?
