I know in SW Ohio Lebanon is again loaded...two DI pitchers on their roster, several others playing high level summer ball and lots of DI college signees.

Lakota West has a very good pitcher that will carry them for a while.

Don't look past Northmont in SW Ohio. They lost 9 seniors, but have a strong sophomore class. Their JV went undefeated last year and just about run-ruled every team on their schedule.

as much as it pains me to say it, Keystone (D2) looks to be solid this year in every position- they have two teams playing winter ball at rival and both havn't lost a game - of course it helps when you average 2-3 studs opening enrolling every year

I agree that Columbia (D3) should be tough.

Elyria (D1) lacks seasoned pitching

I'm sure Hoover (D1) will be a contender again assuming Thacker can stay healthy- not sure they have a back up plan

Thanks for the compliment about Keystone i think? but just so you know in 2012 Keystone did not have any open enrollees in the program, in 2013 they had 2 open enrollees in the program but one was ineligible and this year they still have the same 2 open enrollees in the program- In fact, Keystone has lost kids to open enrollements over the years i.e.- Black River, Elyria, North Ridgeville, Columbia....i'm sure most programs have open enrollees

Lucasville Valley drops down to d-4 on 2014 . Has two D-1 Signees ( Morehead and Bowling Green ) along with a couple others that have played some travel ball and have some experience . Regional finalist in D-3 in 2012 . Got upset early last year but still won 20 plus games. Play in tough conference LOADED with good D-3's .
Portsmouth ND lost several long time starters but the cupboard isnt bare , return 4 of the top hitters , starting pitcher , and added quite a bit of speed by the addition of younger players .

Wheelersburg at D-3 should be extremely strong , good 1st year coach . Roster full of travel ball players .

Bloom Carroll did NOT move up. Still D3 and I would think they are the team to beat.

What blinders? What she said is true. She forgot to mention one of the pitchers open enrolling to Midview this year! She probably got 50% of the innings last year. Who are you and what school does your kid play for? I would love to see how your school team breaks down! Maybe your team should just work harder.

Whoa everyone lets settle down and all take our blood pressure medicine. The original post was who are the top contenders not who open enrolled where. We have no control over where kids go to play and it all has to shake out on the field anyways. So let's just offer up who we think will be good and leave the rest to what happens on the field.

Keystone will be perennial contenders because of a strong softball culture, a very tough coach, and a pipeline of pitchers that keep reloading the program, year after year. This year alone there are 2 freshmen pitchers who haven't fully matured physically or mentally but can all easily pitch at the varsity level. The combination of their growth and competition will make for a squad that will be there, deep into the spring.
I agree with fun and fun, Keystone has probably lost more good players than gained through open enrollment recently.

Cincy D1 GMC should have WEST, MASON and Fairfield as continders to go deep in the playoffs.
If WEST stays healthy they have an edge. MASON is alwayse tough and Fairfield brings back a ton along with a couple new faces that should help them contend.

Interesting some of you talk about transfers in to your school. I'd rather have a team of homegrown talent and develop that talent, than have someone move in and live in the coaches' front yard in a trailer and taking the spot of a girl that has worked hard to play for her school.

Last year Northmont had 9 seniors that all went to kindergarten together and played all their school years in the Northmont district. I enjoyed that so much more because I knew all these girls since the age of 5 and saw them grow and develop into great girls and great athletes. I'll take 24-4 with a run to the regionals with those girls over a step or two further in tourney play with girls that moved in that my girls barely know.

This has been going on for years and is no big deal. Most of the transfers are not athletes.

Oak Hills is the only school from our area I can say, where one player moved in and made them an instant contender from previous years and her addition also made all the other schools better.

A lot of public schools loose good athletes to private schools and with the re-drawing of districts, open enrolment and the economy a lot of families have to move to where the jobs are or where they have additional resources (back in with mom and dad).

Its great your school was able to keep and start the same players for their HS career however; the facts are for the most part if the player is good enough they will play regardless who moves into their district and if one of these ladies was forced to have to make a change (like a lot of these athletes today do). Hopefully;they will be welcomed by their new school, friends and teammates while having the same opportunities to battle for a position.

Yes it has been going on for some time now and it stinks!! Bloom where you are planted! Yes there are a few exceptions, but kids (parents) now a days transfer or open enroll at the drop of a hat if they don't like the littlest thing about where the are at.

If it is within the rules I have no issues with it. All schools have students that come and go at the high school level. (Some come and go and then return)...Most are not athletes and the ones that are and are impact players are a very small percentage.

Players and parents have a variety of reasons for change. Sometimes it is the school/district itself that force players to move.
Pay to play fees in some districts are $500 or more... blended learning and common core with the dropping of arts and music programs etc are all good reasons to make a change if the school does not meet the students needs.

I am not saying player moves cannot effect league play but the cream will come to the top come playoffs and I cannot think of any of the DI sweet 16s from our area in softball the past few years "outside of Oak Hills" where you can say player X moving into the district got them there and, if it is a player changing schools in the same league you can bet the ADs are aware long before any transfer takes place.

That being said...Colerain only returns the CF from the past two years and I am excited to see how the JV players from last year step up to fill the voids in pitching, catching and infield...
