Question for all.
Does it make a difference in the minds of parents and players when tryouts are scheduled? There were a number of tryouts the first weekend of August when many teams were still at Nationals. After that, there were tryouts scheduled this past weekend, simply a week after returning. Obviously, a coach is evaluating their team the entire year, and should have a good idea of what they need or don't, but do you want a little more down time before the tryouts begin? There has been much discussion on whether to take the first offer, putting timelines on accepting, etc.
Does it hurt a team holding tryouts a little later (say 2nd weekend in August or later) and that many of the players that were going to show have already committed? It sounds like many players are holding off on accepting until all the tryouts they wanted to attend are over. I would guess this is more prevalent at 14U and up rather than 12U and down. Do 12U and under parents jump quicker at offers simply because of inexperience?
