$40.00 would be right for a 2 hr rec game by yourself and only doing ONE game for the night. Some communities have two games a field per night usually.. so you hope to do a $35.00 per game only cost if you are the league people.
I say this because for an umpire to come do one game.. he has gas and time in it. Minus the gas cost ( normally) it comes to $30.00 dollars for 2 hr rec game.
Local umpire from down the road.. then $35.00 can cover it.
But, two games say per night in a league.. then by paying $35.00 dollars per game.. an umpire after gas ( rounding to $10.00 dollars actual costs ) equal about $60.00 for both games in take home pay.
Hard to find guys to do one game anymore.. so this is probally why the cost on a per game basis is higher if you only need an umpire for one game.
So, $5.00 scheduling fee ? Wow, but then again.. it might be because it is hard to find someone to go do one game.. and if you are going through your umpire list and so far everything is a "no" ... and that does happen.. you might need to find someone from the surrounding area... Then that $50.00 dollars is usually $5.00 dollars for scheduling (Time and long distance calls) - $10.00 umpire's gas and $35.00 for the game.
Location.. whether it is out there or in the city.. can make the difference as well. If you are a village out in God's Country.. unless you have a local guy.. be prepared to consume some costs for an umpire to attend. Actually, this SAME issue came up at the rec league meeting in Dover a few weeks back. Needing ONE umpire to do ONE game... 40 minutes off the beaten path.
It is a concern for some communities.
