Umpire pay policy for forfeits and rain outs.

Just curious, what is the accepted practice for paying umpires when their game gets rained, forfeited or rescheduled. I'm not talking about high school games. I'm talking about travel tournaments.

1st game of the day rained out. Show up fee = gas money

Forfeited game (since the TD was paid by the forfeited team) = Full Pay for game

Rescheduled in what way ?

Now, some umpire associations require a full game pay for show up fee. This is usually why TD's have a $50.00 non refundable policy.

My local (central Ohio) umpire association policy is:

- Full pay for any game actually started, whether it goes one inning or the full time limit.

- Full pay if the umpire is present and the game in any way results in a forfeit.

- Full pay for working a resumed game that was previously started and suspended at any point, then rescheduled for a later time or date.

- No pay for any games that were rained out, cancelled or otherwise not started or played.

Hey Bretman... how are you this cold morning ? Getting ready for the diamonds myself.

In some cases and certain parks... a rain out show up fee is sometimes a full game's pay. Matters who runs the event.

Today I'm looking out the window at the most beautiful blue cloudless sky and bright sunshine that fall in Ohio has to offer. It's supposed to get up around 60 degrees here today. A great day for softball!

Yesterday I stood around with all the other folks in Pickerington in ice cold temperatures, ankle deep mud, 30 m.p.h. wind gusts and got in four innings of one single game before the rain and sleet hit, wiping out all the rest of the games I was scheduled to work.

I'm not working any games today because my wife wanted to visit a couple of farm markets out in the country. Had to tell my assigner that I wasn't available for games this Sunday back when he was putting together the umpire schedule.

Can you guess which thing I would rather be doing...
