Unwritten rules of softball

What's the unwritten rule (if you wanna call it that) on running up the score? If you are pounding a team do you keep doing your thing or do you ease up? As a coach, If my team is getting beat up on I want my girls to dig deeper and earn the outs but on the other side if my team is the one scoring I would let up...

14. You made a huge mistake by not taking full advantage of the information that went into the recruiting information that your team put together to pass out at showcases. You mentioned your GPA, listed the colleges you want to go to, thanked your coach and parents, etc. You missed a great opportunity to troll everyone and say that you were recently noiminated for a Nobel Prize, you hope you and your glove can bring about world peace, and thanked yourself and the other girls on the team because without a team there can't really be any games played.

OK....

The first unwritten rule that came to mind regarding softball (if I can lend some legitimacy to the initial premise) is this:

Baseball: Tie at 1st base goes to the runner.

Softball: Tie at 1st base is an out.

Umpires will say there is no such thing as a tie, but nonetheless, when it appears to be a tie, for some reason it's always an out in softball. Even runners who are safe by a slight margin are usually called out.

I would argue the unwritten rule is just what you say, that when you are pounding a team it's time to not rub it in. When the game is definitely no longer in doubt, things like stolen bases, squeeze bunts and the like would violate unwritten rules.

Ok, serious question. If you don't work on that stuff in a game, even if it is out of hand, how do you work on it? You can hit it in practice, but that's not really the same.

Ok, back to the lols.

15. It's always disappointing to win a tournament and the medal you get is the exact same design as the medal you got at another tournament a few weeks ago. This happens a lot in the northwest part of the state. If you're out of work and in the Toledo area I think opening a shop with more than 1 style of softball award would be a pretty safe way to earn a living.

Because you worked on it and executed....you have a big lead.

Perhaps. There was no explanation of how this hypothetical team got in the lead to begin with though. They could have been beating the ball up.

16. Leaving out relevant information is not keeping it simple, and I'm not very smart. I wouldn't say full blown stupid, but I digress.

If you don't work on what? I'm not sure whether you mean the offense or defense. The offense is winning big, so it doesn't really need to keep working on stealing bases and squeeze bunting in that game. The defense can work on that stuff in practice, although squeeze bunting is a little harder to simulate in practice from a defensive standpoint. But at some point the teams are so mismatched that it is really fundamental skills that the losing teams need to work on.

Hmmmmm .... surprised there is not more love for shortgame here? I think the introduction of satire into the webpages of OFC is brilliant! If 60 Minutes had its Andy Rooney and Bill O'Reilly has Dennis Miller, why can't OFC have its own lovetheshortgame??? I take softball pretty seriously (not saying that's a good thing), but even I thought there was some pretty funny stuff in there. Looking forward to your next piece LTSG!

I'm not surprised at all. It's actually gone down exactly as I figured it would. That pretty much makes it even funnier.
