Using 2 hands to catch

Above the belly---Should Almost be like the free hand is a venus fly trap that starts on the back of the glove "Thumbs" and cups over the glove opening after the ball hits. You don't catch it with two hands, you just use the free hand to keep it from coming out or transfer for the throw. Hard to describe as it's something we just do from muscle memory...

There are several YouTube videos by this same guy that are a really good tool for understanding mechanics. I really like the hitting videos, I think they are very relevant and well presented. I know they are baseball, but proper mechanics are the same for both sports 99% of the time. In the first video, you can see that you don't really catch with two hands, but you make a transfer quickly to the throwing hand. somewhere around 4:30 or so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKxRzRbSnk4

Also, you do not want to use two hands to catch a grounder, you will have a girl snap a finger for sure. Proper glove techniques should be taught to prevent this from happening. The throwing hand is used above the glove to help protect the face in the event of a bad hop. The glove should make a soft move to the ball, then the GLOVE comes to the throwing hand, not the other way around... check out this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZwW9kr4CGU&feature=related

I like to watch what pros and college players do and try and mimic those actions. I have never seen a pro-level player "alligator chomp" a ground ball with two hands the way people have taught kids to do for years.

Try breaking your catcher from catching with 2 hands , it's not easy until she takes one off the hand , After that they learn to catch with 1 hand very well.

I always taught to catch with one hand, but have the other hand ready if it poped out. So have the bare hand in the vicinity of the glove, "just in case" How many catches are right at you?. Many are off to the side, on either side. If they don`t learn to catch with one hand it is a disadvantage. Another thing I hate to see is the glove held up too early on pop ups.Let the ball come at your face and then protect your face by catching the ball. Lastly is the player running for a line drive with the arm exteneded. If sprinters were faster running with an outstretched arm, they would.
