I am just checking to see where to have my daughter try out this year, last years team wasn't very good and she has the desire to go to college. She will be playing in the 16u age bracket, she is a pitcher. Any help would be greatly appeciated so I can look up when tryouts will be.

Sorry, there isn't an easy answer on this one.

Your DD and you need to do a lot of research on which organizations have the past performance and the present capabilities to help your DD achieve her goal. For each girl, it is different. A particular girl might be a great fit with one team and then be a total mismatch on the next team.

There are organizations out there that have a pretty good record of getting what you are searching for but the most important thing is that the organization has to be a good fit for your DD and your DD has to be a fit for the organization.

Several things to consider:

1. Has your DD made a realistic prospective college list?
2. How far away from home does DD want to attend college?
3. Does the school offer her intended degree?
4. Has your DD emailed college coaches about her interest in their college program?
5. Has your DD attended college camps?
6. Grades and ACT/SAT. This will also greatly influence where your DD can go to school and which schools to put on her list.
7. When your DD goes to college, she will be an adult. Coaches will be wanting to communicate with her during the recruiting process. She needs to take the lead. There will be a time and place for the parents to chime in but for the most part, the coaches want to talk to the girl.
8. Your DD needs to market herself. She needs to send the emails, letters, and videos. Not Mom and Dad.

For a travel team:

1. How far are you willing to travel for practice?
2. Are you, as a parent, ready to sit in the stands and behave (not to say that you have mis-behaved, just that college coaches will pass on girls whose parents are raving lunitics during games)?
3. What is the travel team's intended schedule for this fall and next year? If showcases are not a part of the schedule, then you need another team.
4. Remember, for showcases, coaches are watching girls in a highly competitive environment. They don't care what the score is, they just want to see their prospects perform in a highly competitive environment.
5. What is the team's/organization's track record on getting girls seen by colleges? Remember, the coach can help the girl and get the college coaches to come and watch her but the bottom line in getting an offer is the girl's performance and her self-marketing efforts.
6. Will the coach also be able to better/improve your DD's skill set? A lot of coaches are great talkers and managers but can they also teach?

There are a lot more things to consider but this is a good starting point.
