Hitting and Hitters Discussion What are they?...."Blood Blisters" from Slapping

How does the old adage go..."long time listener, first time caller"...hoping the experience on this site can help us understand the following issue.

DD is getting 'bumps' on her hand after slapping, happened three times so far this year, all off live pitching....been slapping for 2 years, never experienced this before. Got 'em on both hands, in the area where your calluses form (backside of your knuckles).

Assistant coach said he has seen other slappers get similar 'bumps'. They are about the size of a quarter and about 1/4" high....form almost instantly after hitting.

Athletic Trainer said they are blood blisters, but I don't see the 'redness' I would expect like when you pinch your skin with pliers and get a blood blister. They go away in about 2 days, but 'tender' for the first few hours.

Has anyone experienced these before? What are they? More importantly, how do you prevent them....grip, gloves, etc.?

My dd's hands thank you in advance!!

Sounds like a "Hand Contusion" here is a link to get you started.

If it's like what I think you are explaining...I get them nearly everytime I push mow my yard. All that vibration cause my fingers to swell and the palms of my hands to inflame...and they get a tingling feeling that is unbearable at times. Goes away after a few hours, but is quite uncomfortable in the beginning. I now wear gloves or use some sort of padding to prevent the vibration from settling into my hands.

I think it's just an excuse to not mow the yard. ;&

They are also caused by the bat twisting on impact in your hand.
Invest in GOOD batting gloves, cheap ones won't help.
To me they are blisters, not blood blisters.
DD usually will get them when she starts back up after being off for awhile.
