What are your plans for ASA State?

If your goal is to be the STATE CHAMPION, then give up the bid and try to win the title. You have to determine what is the goal for the team.

Here is the thing anyway. Is it really the state champion any year? Not all teams go to ASA. Some really good teams only play NSA.

Or maybe a team's goal is USSA, then they aren't going ASA anyway.

Why teach the girls to have limitations on their goals when they should easily be able to go for both State Champs and go to USA Nationals? Sounds like the wrong message to me. I too would be interested to hear which "good" teams play NSA only or even mostly.

As i stated in my post, ASA has limited control over metros.
Fast2Home you are right I should have said that they have no control over metros.

The Metro's in Ohio are a complete separate entity from Ohio ASA. Ohio ASA has no control over them, however, to some degree they do work together in some situations.

Update on the above... got the hammered decision from our Metro Commissioner last night... per the Ohio By-Laws... if you have your ASA/USA berth you can't play in a tournament offering that same berth. This has flip flopped several times and we truly thought being in the Cincy Metro we would stay away from this requirement. To bad, so sad.:(

not necessarily, teams winning a year end regional or national (actually I think a top 2-4 finish) qualify for the next year as I understand it. So, they have theirs locked up in August of the prev year - Les is in that boat right now, as is one of our Hawks teams... if the best teams play, they should seed and not meet until the final 8 or later ...

Not happy but the rules are the rules... we'll move on. Still would rather play in the Dayton Metro due to the strong teams and close proximity for us. At least our options are a plenty. We could drop our berth to play but its too early in the season to short ourselves and be forced one direction vs the other.

That's a tough spot to be in. As much as you like the challenge of strong competition it has to kill you not to play the Metro but I don't blame you for keeping the berth. I would too.

Also included in ASA stupidity is the fact that they are keeping the 14U pitching distance at 40'...........why. I know that depending on the tourny stature they can make it 43' but you would think that the "leading softball body" would be leading change & not 2 yrs behind. Makes no sense to me.

Doug,
When backing out of a tournament because you did not want to forfeit your ASA bid, did you play strictly non ASA tournaments? Were you allowed to play in ASA Eastern Qualifiers and/or play up in ASA Eastern Qualifiers? Do you know the ASA rules for playing in ASA Eastern Qualifiers either in your age bracket or playing up in the next age bracket after qualifying for ASA/USA?

We played in a non-ASA qualifier up at 14u. I am not positive... I assume that you can not play in any National Qualifier once you accept your berth .. could that possibly be right? If so, teams with their berth would be severly restricted on the tourney's avail for them to play in... Les above would not be able to play in an ENQ's etc ... someone tell me that ain't so... that would mean once you qualified for a regional, ie, ENQ, you can't play in any more regionals?

PS. 40ft at 14u - stupid.

Ohio ASA should be like Tennessee , DDs team just got word today. They have been accepted into the Music City Hits tournament. This tournament is now an ASA/USA qualifier. They will award the berth to the winning team no matter what state you come from. And if you have already won your berth, you can still play the tournament without giving up your previous berth.
Tennessee ASA smarter than Ohio ASA?
YES

I really hope that is not the case! That could ruin a whole summer of ball if you qualify early!

If you have a berth to ASA/USA, I would assume you could still play in ENQ's since it's an entirely different National right?

I don't see that getting policed at the ENQ level, even if it's a rule.

I spoke to my regional ASA director last night. He said there are no limitations on playing in ENQ's or any Regional qualifiers for that matter once you have accepted an ASA/USA berth. and no restrictions on playing in additional ENQ's once you have won a berth for a Regional.

Yes, we can play in any regional we want. No issues at that level in OH.

The Ohio by-laws are the controlling/binding document. Without saying it...reminds me of some other Ohio body. Rolling with it and happy to just play ball once it warms up. Can't wait.
