So just finished our season where (the travel team I coached) 12u, 6th grade Northern Kentucky players played high school ball. My (12U) daughter did not due to personal objections. So now I have the same issue with next year as they turn 7th graders. KY is nuts. I really don't think my 12 year old going on 13 is ready for the dugout conversations? By the way my 12u lead the team in pitching and batting average. Peer pressure. just venting. Cross the River?

Do you play high school in Kentucky for next year or cross the river and join an Ohio Club.

Is this a small school? Why would a 7th grader be playing "high school" ball?

I say play school ball. 12u tourneys become harder to find, plus you will get more games in school ball as opposed to the couple tourneys you would get in travel. Also on a side note there are a few Jr High programs in OH that make you follow OHSAA rules as well, so you might not have a full team to enter tourneys anyway. Good luck with whatever route you choose.

In KY, 7th graders can play HS ball.

I would address any concerns with the HS coach. If your DD is a stud and is able to make the HS team, then he/she should make sure that everyone is treated with respect and that sensitive subjects are not discussed in the company of young ears. However, in reality, this will be hard to control. Just be ready for some of those daughter talks a few years earlier than planned.

What would concern me more is a 7th grader pitching against an 18 year old. That is a huge difference.

In KY, High School players are allowed to play travel ball during their school season. Unlike Ohio, where you are forbidden to have any contact with your travel team during the High School season.

I SAY DO BOTH!!. I had a 7th grade girl play for me last season from KY who played both high school and travel ball during April and May and never missed a tournament.
