What kind of hitting leagues are offered/preferred???

I offer indoor hitting leagues at my indoor batting range, training facility and pro shop but want to see what other options are out there.

My leagues have been going on for 20+ yrs with the same format pretty much the entire time. Each team has 4 players and each gets 5 at bats. Each at bat consists of 10 pitches off the pitching machine. Depending on where ball hits, swing and a miss, foul ball, etc., a point value is given. Singles are 1 base, doubles are 2 bases and so on and foul balls, swings and misses and pop ups are worth 0. At the conclusion of the 10 pith at bat, total bases are added up and divided by 4 to get a run value. This has worked for years but doesn't get the fielders, pitchers and catchers involved.

I have seen and heard of others who do it with live pitching, a catcher and umpires. What do parents and players prefer? Who else does this? What are the drawbacks? Costs to enter? What can those places do better? I want the best for my customers, players, parents and my business.

I do not have space as of right now to offer live pitching leagues but am looking at space and want to utilize it properly. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Grand Slam in Columbus does hitting leagues. 4 players on a team. Pitcher, catcher, umpire in the cage. Games last 7 innings and each inning all 4 players bat once. They have a scoring system for hitters and pitchers plus each inning catcher gets one throw down simulating a base stealer. If they hit the target on back end of net they get points.

johua,
the wolfpack has started a hitting league this winter with live pitching, hitter and catcher in a cage. i personally talked to female that runs grand slam in col. and she was very helpful in set up. we have had feedback that everyone loves it. going against the live pitcher is what will draw teams/people/parents/coaches to you. we have 16 teams and possibly 2 more. we have teams roster at least 4 with a pitcher and catcher. i will email our registration and waiver. we only charged $60 a kid which is signif. less than grand slam but no paid for umpire(using coaches and parents). no problems yet. this is a no frills league. we capped the cost to allow a whole team to roster BUT can only bring 6 per game. so less at bats obviously. some teams have split themselves in two. some teams roster everyone and bring whomever can make it. and i have several individuals. Last week we had a team with a 12U from storm 01, sundogs 12u, emeralds 01, wolfpack 10U, and jackson rec. and it went great they had a ball. find a way to get the live pitching into the equation. with live pitching we did max 7 pitches per kid. i will take some pics and email to you. eddie chevalier wolfpack 12u

Yeah hitting off live pitching, you can't beat it. I really thought at first that this was going to be kind of a waste. But when I got there and saw it, it was great! I know my daughter loved it! Plus your pitcher and catcher get work!
