Re: What to do when players miss too many practice

Well, this sounds like the coach from the posts has a problem with the parents.......so then you need to talk with those parents
don't sit hear and ask the world what they think, would you do that when you coach?
I have read this post from the top and I just have to ask this because I have seen this soooo many times does this coach have a dd that pitches?
Does this girl on your 12u team pitch also? or does this coach have a dd that plays the same spot as this girl on the team?
Just throwing some things out, does this coach tell all on his/her team what is going on?
What needs to be done is to sit down with everyone and do what adults do talk it over see whats best for all ?>:(
Softball it's just a game isnt it? [smiley=cry.gif]

timac4, are you serious? I wouldn't care if she was the bottom of my roster or top...she needs to get her butt to practice. Giving favor to one is not a team mentality. What's good for one is good for all. There is no cohesiveness when a girl doesn't show for practice. It's time to gel with each other not to be a diva and just show for games!

As far as suggestion as what to do, better geet it taken care of...now! Cut your loses if you have and stick to your guns. There will be someone who wants to take her place, just look around. You have the team's interest to look out for.

During winter practices there will always be a few girls that are multi-sport athletes. At the high school age I think you have to have more flexibility as a coach during the winter. Part-time jobs can even enter in. Most are driving so most have to earn their gas money. Even then most employers wil help with scheduling around a practice if the girls are pro-active and ask in advance.

Once the high school teams release them in the spring...things change! Illness is the only excuse.

In a perfect world, your roster is made up of 12 girls that are softball and only softball...there are probably a few teams that have that luxury.

Smiles04,

?we are a chip from the same rock. ?Why would you sign up for a travel team, pay lord knows how much, and only show for games. ?I'm sure this upsets the other parents that are lugging their kids around right after work, taking work off early and working weekends to be at all their kids practices and games. ?In travel ball, quality beats quanity any day of the week. ?We had a girl on our team last year that drove 80 minutes each way to practice and only missed one practice due to a death in the family. ?Thats dedication ! ?Her parents were all about the concept of teamwork. ?And by the end of the year I would say she was one of our top 4 players. ?But....she had to work her butt off to get there! ?And she did. ?Its along season, anything can happen. ?Will your dd be ready when called on, or will mom and dad not rise up to the challenge. ?Look at Mowat last year. ?She was the back up pitcher, an injury happend, and the team rode her to a championship. ?How did this happen???? ?While she wasn't a starter, she worked her butt off while bolted to the bench and rose to the task when called on. ?And i'll bet you a 5 gallon bucket of walking tacos ?"SHE NEVER MISSED A PRACTICE" ?Food for thought.

Practice,Practice,Practice AGAIN it's not that this girl didn't want to it was again saying that no practices would be held when winter
indoor softball was being played and that parent signing there girl up for softball class and spending money and time to try to better that girl for that team...well it was never good enough the same girls played the same spots just about every game it.
It's funny how people would see you at a game,at a practice say hi to you and your family and then go home make up a fake name and slam you on a forum!
You know this is still a kids game and as adults we should let them have"FUN" and let them play the girls will GEL just fine.

Re: What to do when players miss too many practice

I know this has been mentioned in other posts, but what about Sunday morning practices? DD is an 8th grader- missing 6 Sunday's is not an option with her church if she want's to be confirmed. Her coach is o.k with it but my dd hated missing 6 practices. Do most coaches excuse for Sunday mornings?

While you're at church, you can pray the coach doesn't give your daughter's spot in the starting lineup to someone else.

If he does, then you can sue him for religious persecution.

For years, Shawn Green (Jewish) wouldn't play on the sabbath. The Dodgers accepted it (though I think it was more because he was a great hitter than because they were understanding). But after awhile, he stopped taking off on the sabbath. Maybe he realized that God doesn't require such nonsense. He only asks that you love your neighbor as you love yourself-- that you honor him in every thing you do.

What better place to honor God than on a ball field? Go to practice. Hustle. Make him proud!
If he's really watching you, don't you think he'd rather see you turn a double play than sit in a pew and sing off key? I mean REALLY!

Re: What to do when players miss too many practice

If I remember the verse correctly it states "come together and rejoice in his name", there is no quote as to church. If one girl can bring her faith to practice and make it contagious who knows maybe we can have a few prayers before and after the practice and games without offending somebody. Who knows maybe we can keep a couple of the girls on a path that is honorable and rightous. This has to be a decision that the girl and parents have to make, but if they decide on practice on Sunday and they feel that they may be making the wrong decision, have the girl lead a short prayer before practice starts, and then see if a different player will lead another prayer after practice. "REJOICE IN HIS NAME"

This is a slippery slope so I'll just watch the impending train wreck from a safe distance :-X :-X

Our team schedules Sunday practices AFTER church. ;) There problem solved. You can still go to church on Sunday and have practice if your coach will schedule practices after 1:00 pm on Sunday. ;D

Wow! After reading some of your posts, I thank God that my dd has the coach that she has! And yes, this post was about practice on SUNDAY MORNINGS in the winter- not sunday afternoons, evenings or games on Sundays. Maybe I should have specified that.

That is my point. Maybe you can talk with your coach and see if it is possible to schedule practice after church. I also am glad we have the coaches we do. They are very approachable about anything and any problem. :D

LOL Brianna! Good one. If you're a marginal player, you have to get to practice or you'll be replaced by another marginal player who does. If you're a star, you'll probably be forgiven. That's the way it is in sports (for the most part) and that's the way it is in life (for the most part). Sports tend to teach life -- and life isn't fair.

If you're a really good player, then coaches will be begging you to show up for certain tournaments and they'll forgive you if you choose to play for another team on other weekends.

Bottom line: the best players will always have a place to play. The marginal players will have to claw and scratch. JUST LIKE LIFE. ADVICE: Work hard to be one of the best. That's the truth.

Re: What to do when players miss too many practice

Actually its about missing to many practices period. ?WARNING WARNING, the spin doctors are at work. ?Brianna 87, obviously you are on a travel team and i'm sure your a great player. ?You will play tournements away from home. ?On sundays, you will play at 8a.m., again at 11a.m. and if your lucky you will still be playing after that. ?And you will miss church, beleive it or not. ?As the good book says "Do not judge others" ?If you love going to church that is awsome. ?If you choose to go to church rather than practice thats your choice. ?But for you to be judgemental on other for not following your choices at your age (i'm guessing 14 max.) or any age is contrary to the christian faith that you preach. ?Beleive it or not, you can be an awsome christian, and not have attended a day of worship in your life. ?Like in softball, it's not quanity of time spent, its quality. ?So during sunday school ask your elders about judging others. ?You will see that your prevoius post was not speading the word at all. ?You are young my child, don't go into a relm you are still learning about but don't yet understand. ?So Brianna, have a great season, work hard, and when you are playing on sunday, which you will, find suddle ways to express your love outside of the walls of church. ?Everyone can worship the lord on sundays, special ones can find a way to do it everyday. :-/
