Looking at my record collection from the mid to late 60's I see a lot of Byrds, Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, CSN&Y, Neil Young, etc. Once the early 70's rolled around, Eagles, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Emmy Lou Harris & Gram Parsons, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt......then I got married and the record collection faded. ;)

I really like just about everything- depends on my mood and what's available.

Me too, bretman---I gotta say my tastes were probably influenced by the dance parties my older sisters used to have (I come from a large family ~ middle kid of 9). ?I remember being about 7yrs old and feelin' soooo grown up when my big sisters would let me flip the stack of 45's on the record player, lol. ?

So even though I've got some of just about everything except big hair metal or hard rock , lol, on my iTunes (rock, pop, country, electro, alt, classical), by far the biggest categories are R&B, Motown and Dance.

Here's a few fave artists:

Al Green
Michael Jackson
Stevie Wonder
James Brown
Marvin Gaye
Diana Ross
Aretha Franklin
Martha Reeves
Chaka Khan
Jr. Walker and the Allstars
Temptations
Earth, Wind and Fire
Gap Band
Ohio Players
Prince
Percy Sledge
Jackie Wilson

Basically anything but country and rap. Preference would be late 60's and 70's rock with some modern Pearl Jam,Nickelback,DMB and Tom Petty..but please no one who uses phonics to spell their name ;D ;D

Kat,

The Ohio Players should be the official band of the Ohio Fastpitch Connection! ?:)

They were one of my favorites. They were out of Dayton, Ohio and Dayton was a hotbed for funk bands back in the 70's. So much so that there are actually web sites devoted to the subject (but then, there is probably a web site devoted to just about any subject you can imagine...).

http://www.ohiofunk.org/index.html

You can even Google up a few more web sites devoted to this music. Bootsy Collins, The Isley Brothers and a host of others came out of the Ohio funk scene and broke out on a national level.

Stevie Wonder is one artist whose work has held up and still seems fresh today. His body of work is amazing. I could throw on one of his greatest hits collections anytime and love it.

Another favorite from your list is Earth, Wind and Fire. The contrast between their music and much of the pop music today is amazing. They were truly accomplished musicians, singers, performers and song writers. A lot of the stuff you hear on the radio today is just, like, an electronic beep repeated over and over with someone talking over it!

Not that there's anything wrong with that...I like the beat and it's easy to dance to...but, geesh, can't somebody play some real instruments and actually sing once in a while!

But that means "rock" is only one letter away from "crock"!

Classic Rock, Southern Rock, and a little Country & current pop.

Eagles, Bob Seger, Lynerd Skynrd, Neil Young, Billy Joel, CCR, Springsteen, Aerosmith (older albums), Fleetwood Mac (hated then when they were "current"), Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, a few others ... plus a little pop mixed in.

I loved Michael Jackson up until he made "Bad". Wait, there's a current song with that line in it! I actually like that song, but I don't know who sings it. Now I'm liking a lot of my kids' music like Green Day and Bowling for Soup.

Thanks. I was talking about that song with my dd in the car tonight and it was the next song played on the radio. She said that was scary.
