When are players released after state tourney?

If a player plays in a game in the HS state tourney today (and their team loses/knocked out) can she play in a tourney tonight with her TB team? Haven't seen anything in any rules that says she cannot play in both. Only rule that comes close is the one saying she can play with TB team after being released, but it doesn't say anything about it being in the same day.

Actually, I think the rule language is that the player cannot play with TB team until her high school "season" is complete? (I haven't reviewed the language in a while, but that's my recollection). The "release" is more about the HS coach defining when the season is over. So if he or she says the season is over after the loss, I think you are ok.

Yes, I also recall it says "season." The season has to be over if a team is knocked out in its game at State, so I would say they are released at that point. Otherwise, what's to keep a coach from saying the season isn't over until July 1 or so?

Agreed. I think the ONLY thing that would continue a season after playoffs is if you still have league games to complete due to rainouts. This usually only happens to teams before the state tourney but you never know.

@Kroeter:

Not sure why this thread elicited your sarcasm. Most travel ball coaches follow HS ball closely and would not dream of putting their players in a position that jeopardizes HS eligibility. But the TB season is upon us and only 8 teams of HS players are unavailable for TB at this time. (Many HS players have not had HS ball since something like May 4). Apparently one of the parents of a HS player who was still in the State Tourney at the time this thread was created (and may well still be, for all I know) wanted to know what the player's status would be if the HS team got knocked out of the tournament. How do you interpret that as something hostile to HS? Geez.

You have heard the saying in golf that "Driving is for show and putting is for dough."

Well, that saying can be said about fastpitch...."High School is for show, Travel is for dough." We've been all over the HS vs Travel many, many times and we all know that college coaches, for the most part, scout their recruits during the travel season. And that is where the athletic scholly dough is earned. :D

No athletic scholly without academics. So actually HS is for the show and the dough.

Feb. 20First Day of Coaching
Mar. 24Season Begins
April 16Non-Interscholastic Competition No Longer Permitted
April 29Sectional Tournament Draw Date
May 5 - May 12Sectional Tournament
May 14 - May 19District Tournament
May 23 - May 26Regional Tournament
May 31 - June 2State Tournament
June 9Season Ends
Aug. 6 - Sept. 3Coach No Contact Period

According to OHSAA the official end to the season is June 9th. So a team/player could be held by there coach until that date if they have makeups, but I have never heard of a coach holding a player after they are knocked out of the tourney.

Some may ask why a season end date?? If you are not a hater of HS coaches...lol... then the significance is that HS coaches can have unlimited contact days with their athletes up to this date. Whereas, after this date the coaching staff is only allowed 10 contact days when they are working with a group of 4 or more. If you stay under 4 players the HS coach or staff can have unlimited contact up until the NO CONTACT period beginning August 6th.

Thanks for all the comments. This question came up because our TB team had 2 players still in the tourney on Friday (10 am game). We also had a tourney starting Fri (1st game at 5). It was discussed that if they would lose, could they come to our game. My thoughts were yes, if the coach said they were released. Another person said no, they have to wait till the next day. I had never heard anything or read anything that said it takes effect the next day, so I asked the experts. ;)
