I have been watching fastpitch ball since my daughter was 9. Now that she's 15 not a whole lot has changed in reference to "aging umpires". I have a a great deal of respect for these guys seeing how being a long-term care nurse most of my residents are their age. But not to be too disrespectful, enough is enough. I have Alzheimer residents who have more memory than some of these umpires. There is 2 things in my life I hold sacred--my daughter & her softball. If you have trouble remembering which field your on & have to hurry up a game because your Lasix just kicked in, please get a different part-time job.

Funny story

My favorite umpire story ... last year I had an older gentlemen doing our game, he had to be in his 70s and he was VERY hard of hearing. I wanted to go out and speak with my pitcher, I asked

Time Blue..... no response
I yelled Time Blue..... he sees me waving my arm and looks at his watch and says 9:15

True story.
