A good catcher should be able to easily block a low drop...a coach should require it. I may intentionally have my pitcher throw a drop in the dirt depending on the hitter. If my catcher cant easily tag or throw out the base runner after a low drop then she probably will not be catching on my team. Just my opinion.

I like the drop ball. But same as any pitch, make a mistake by hanging a drop, kiss it good-bye. Every pitch has it's advanages and disadvantages. Let's face it, as prebviously stated, there are teams that are so disclipined at the plate, they wait on mistakes and will take pitchers out of their game. And pitchers will have those days when a certain pitch is just not working, at the elite level you need an arsenal of pitches to choose from.
