When I replace my catcher with a courtesy runner in HS softball, who then steals a base or scores, who gets the credit in the stats for the run scored and stolen base? I would think if it was a pinch runner, this is an official substitution, so the runner would get the credit, but a courtesy runner is not given credit for a game played, so ....?

Thanks

I did not know the coutesy runner was not given credit for a game played, because from what I have always done. The courtesy runner gets the stats... I cant imagine that you could have a slow catcher, who always get on base and then leads their league in stolen bases because you have a very fast courtesy runner???

That's what i thought... but i just started thinking that courtesy running does not count as a game played for the number of games allowed by a player.

I would treat it as a pinch runner in every stat except the "official" games played.

I don't think that being a pinch/courtesy runner counts as a game appearance. See the Atec Scorer's Guide for cumluative performance records:

A consecutive game playing streak continues by playing one half of an inning on defense (three outs), or by completing one turn at bat. Merely being a pinch runner does not continue the streak.

I agree that the runner gets credit for runs scored and stolen bases, however.

that's pertaining to a streak, the pinch runner gets the stats! Let's see my catcher bats .700 and gets relieved every time she gets on first, then my pinch runner steals 38 bases on the season, so we say the catcher has a hell of a year both defensively, offensively and running the bases? LOL

Umm, I think I said that the runner gets the stats just credit for the game played.
