Doane Softball opened the 2020 season on Thursday with a pair of games in Portland, Texas. The Tigers opened the season with an 8-0 loss to Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) before falling 4-3 to NAIA No. 2 Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

Doane was limited to a pair of hits over six innings in the opener. Angelina Esqueda (FR/Las Vegas, Nev.) and Tayler Mashburn (SR/Centennial. Colo.) picked up the Tiger hits. Esqueda added a stolen base in the game.

In the circle, Breanna Hamilton (SR/Windsor, Colo.) started and went 5.1 innings. She allowed six runs, three earned, on one hit and six walks while striking out eight. Ashley Jacobson (JR/Omaha, Neb.) threw 0.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits before the game was stopped on the 8-run rule.

In the second game of the day, Doane threatened to knock off their first Top 10 opponent since 2015, however, the Drovers would come from behind for a walk-off victory.

Doane scored single runs in the 3rd, 5th, and 6th innings to take a 3-0 lead. USAO answered back with a run in the bottom of the 6th and three in the 7th.

Kailyn Wiseman (JR/Sutton, Neb.) led the team with two hits, a stolen base, and a run batted in. Esqueda scored two runs for the Tigers.
