Who gets the loss?

Pitcher A starts the game, pitches 2 complete innings & gives up 4 runs. When pitcher B comes in at the top of the 3rd, the score is 4-0 & her team is losing. Pitcher B has 3 more runs scored over the remaining 5 innings. At no time does her team ever tie the score or pull ahead. Game ends at a loss of 7-6. Which pitcher gets the loss on her record?

Thanks!

No matter how many innings the starting pitchers pitches, if her team fails to take the lead or tie the game, the starting pitcher gets the loss.
pitcher A

If a starting pitcher goes out of the game and her team is behind and never catches up, she gets the loss no matter if she pitches to only 1 batter in the first, or only gives up 1 baserunner in 15 innings.

But if pitcher A goes out and the team is losing then Pitcher B throws a few innings , ties or starts to win then Pitcher A comes back in to close....and the game is won....Then Pitcher B gets the win and Pitcher A gets the save..........

LUVFPSB,

In your scenario, it depends on how many runs Pitcher "B" was able to get ahead of the opposing team before being relieved and also how many innings the reliever pitches. ?A SAVE is very often misunderstood by beginner scorekeepers.

Pitching: Saves
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
1. A pitcher must meet all three of the following conditions to be credited with a save:
?a - She is the last pitcher in the win, and
?b - She is not the winning pitcher, and
?c - She meets one of the following:
? ? 1) She enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least One inning, or
? ? 2) She pitches effectively for at least three innings, or
? ? 3) She enters the game with the potential tieing run either on base, at bat or on deck.

2. No more than one save may be credited in a game.

In this game it was a save.....final score 8-4 with Pitcher A leaving when losing 2-1 and returning when winning 5-4....final score with Pitcher A was 8-4 after she pitched the final 2 innings....

LUVFPSB, you are correct. But don't let people know or they will be hitting you up for keeping the book. ;)

We had the same thing happen to my DD in a game, at no time did our team tie the game or go ahead. At one point we did equal the number of runs pitcher A gave up, but by then we were still losing, my DD, pitcher B gave up 3 more runs. Who gets the loss??

If someone can give the section/page number/ etc of the ruling in the OHSAA rule book I would appreciate it.

thanks

The first pitcher still gets the loss if her team never "caught up" (tied the game or went ahead.

I don't know if the OHSAA rules would cover that, but the ATEC scoring manual is pretty specific on the point. OHSAA would probably just follow a credible source - no need to reinvent the wheel.

This might be a side note but my dd has been scored both ways, she gets the loss when she starts with a winning score and gets relieved and second pitcher loses the game. And she gets the loss when she relieves with a losing score too. Last time she came in in the 3rd with bases loaded and 7-0 score and was given the loss. I'm certain that this comes with the fact that she does not get along with the coach. Down side comes with talking to college coaches who sees a poor record.

The ATEC is the manual used for Official Scorekeeping. I would request a meeting with the coach, the AD, and a copy of the ATEC.
