Big congrats to Miss Mckenzie Conrad, your hard work has paid off.
Congratulations to Erin Pond, class of 2012 Keystone HS & Tidalwaves travelball team...for her verbal commitment to play softball for the University of Akron.
for the 2012 recruiting class...Akron has 2 Erin's and 2 McKenzie's...coaches don't have to remember many names:lmao:
Congratulations to Olivia O'Reilly, Sylvania Southview and Buckeye Heat-Toledo, for her verbal committment to play softball at The Ohio State University.
what position does O'Rielly play ?
is she a Jr this year ? A lot of talk about big programs locking up kids earlier and earlier.
If I ask stupid questions please cut me some slack --my kid is a lowly freshman and I don't know a bunch about the recruiting proces , especially amongst power players like big ten or SEC schools but I've been told the big conference teams are locking up players earlier and earlier but this player is starting her senior year in a month or so and was unsigned ?
I'm hearing from a large amount of sources the type of talk that says to the 15 or 16u kid (HS fresh , soph's and some jr's) " State U is already got Player A,B,C etc etc lined up --if you don't get in quick you will miss the boat" and State U already has their pitching and catching lined up thru 2013. So was there some special circumstance to her recruitment that allowed an obviously very talented pitcher to go unsigned thru her 15,16, and 17u travel years ?
Don't read me wrong at all, I'm thrilled OSU is looking at local talent (IT"S THERE !!!!) but to hear a pitcher not signed in feb of her Sr year flys against all the talk I'm hearing. I've been told some Big U's have their pitching and catching set thru 2013 already. maybe that type of talk is the exception not the rule ?

MD - First, I do not know any of these recruits, so I am just speaking in general terms. As you know, there are MANY sides to every recruiting process. Simply because a kid is offered a roster spot doesn't mean she's going to accept the offer. Could be she also has some serious scholarship money on the table from a perceived "lesser" school. Remember, "outsiders" are only seeing the softball side of things, whereas the recruit and her parents are nearly always focusing on everything else, and softball may be much further down the list as just an added bonus. Sure, the softball IS important, because that's what initiated the scholarship offer in the first place! But it's only part of the bigger picture.
Again, not referring to any particular recruit, but some kids would give anything to realize a nearly life-long dream of being a Buckeye (for instance) - even going so far as being a walk-on when they could have had some decent athletic money at another program. Every kid/family is different with different goals/priorities. All this stuff affects whether a recruit signs early (November) or waits until spring, etc. The musical chairs, trading recruits and juggling behind the scenes is a very hidden part that is forgotten.
