Our website is updated almost everyday. Several players on our teams found us by our website. :yahoo:

Suggestion:

Place your mailing address and/or team's hometown on the home page or on a contact us page.

When I was researching teams for my daughter in the past, I often had difficulty in figuring out where a team was located.

That is good info for all sites. Thank you. And thank you to all the positive replies prior. Its ok to tell me this dislikes too. I need that info to better the site.

Hey guys. Thanks for the hits on the site. Doug and I, as well as the rest of the org, think that it can be a great tool.

I would be willing to do some work on anyone's site. If you are interested, let me know.

Check out the Silver Creek Starz web site. It is updated quite often and offers lots of information on all of their teams as well as organization info, contact info, softball related links, softball training videos and much more.

silvercreekstarz.com

While researching tournaments and travel teams, Silver Creek is definitely organized with a lot of information. I also bookmarked Ohio Blast, www.ohioblast.com. Both use League Lineup and always appear up-to-date.

I see most travel websites use either League Lineup or Eteamz. Any pros and cons for either of these?

Its all about what functionality they deliver as opposed to what you want to offer. When Doug and I started hitting the site hard, we realized very quickly that we wanted to do a lot of things that other more generic site providers could not do. We also wanted total control over the site, from a deep technology standpoint, so we built our own and are continuing to work on it.

If LL or ETeamz works for you and what your goals are, there are no issues with it. But if you want your site to stand out, you cant do what everyone else is doing. By definition, you cant differentiate yourself that way.

Your web presence has to reflect your team/org individuality. To do that, you have to strike out on your own.

We were looking at a customized website, but how would one intergrate the stats data in it?

You really have to build that part. I have done it in the past, with the Hawks and with some other sports organizations. You can give me a call if you want at 513-939-5788 and we can discuss what it takes.

So can I go ahead and put a tryout post out there for web-egghead parent? The post will read like this "looking for a player that has parents that have website building skills, can take great pictures, are independently wealthy and can sponsor the team, have a decked out RV, are willing to setup the shade canopies, are willing to host all cookouts and bring the cornhole boards with them, can keep good stats, are willing to bring and maintain the first aid kit and ice packs, are part time travel agents that can book all hotels and make all travel arrangements, oh yeah and never complain." Player position and skill are just afterthoughts.

I am not looking for too much am I?

In all seriousness you guys all have some nice websites! We have the boring old League Lineup site.

www.leaguelineup.com/valleyextreme12ublue

It's not great but I am only one man, with no website skills whatsoever, what can I say.

Have to agree that LL and Eteamz may not be customized but still nice to have an opportunity to utilize their free team websites. When I'm looking at team websites, I check the last modified date as well as what information is provided, such as calendars, stats, handouts, etc. I would think the main purpose for a website is a place to keep current information for coaches, players and parents. Nice to have handouts, fundraising information, and forms available online, and LL also lets you add driving directions. I love the customized team websites but usually they require somebody with extensive website knowledge and what happens if that person would leave the team? At least with LL and Eteamz, pretty straight forward and somebody with basic knowledge of using a computer can maintain the website.

Well said. I build websites and like all other things everyone wants it for free. No one counts the time it takes to build / maintain. Stick with the free sites - they may be boring but they are simple and to the point. I am suprosed that someone won't play for an organization because their website is cheezy.

True, the free sites do have that advantage of being available with or without that admin person, but if the account is setup under a coach's name and that coach leaves, or an administrator, etc, you have the same problem. And they just look bad.

At the end of the day, your online presence is, in many situations, your first impression to a prospective player. What they see there is no different from the days before when a good player would come to tryouts and the coaches look and act disorganized. It makes the whole organization look disorganized. We all compete for those same top players. Don't do your team the disservice of discounting the impact of a good web site.

There is a whole industry around making great websites. The reason is because it is important.

Most templates are less than $100.00 and it walks you through about everything you need. We are still in the infantcy but a ton of room for growth.
