Runners on 2nd & 3rd
Batter hits the ball toward SS
Runner from 2nd interferes with play
Umpire calls interference, runner from 2nd is called out
Runner from 3rd scores
Batter safe at 1st

Shouldn't it have been a dead ball?

Yes, this type of interference is an immediate dead ball.

The interfering runner is out. All other runners must return to the last base touched/passed at the time of the interference.

The batter/runner is placed on first base.

The only way the runner from third would score is if they crossed the plate BEFORE the interference occurred. Not very likely, but possible.

Pretty sure you're right.
I'm very curious to hear this explanation and is it the same "HBP" umpire?

Yes it was the same "HBP" umpire but no explanation given other than "that's the rule" hahahaha

Being "ASA" doesn't automatically make you a better umpire. And a U.A.W. worker doesn't automatically make better cars.

As with any group, you have "A tier" members and "Not-so A tier"...
