Kayla Ledbetter. Sophmore to be at Gahanna Lincoln. Played for 16u Ohio Classics NSA Nationals Champions. This girl is the real deal.

No doubt in my mind!!! I coached Kayla in bantam league baseball at 7 and 8 years old and knew then that she would be amazing. She is a great catcher, but there isn't a position on the field, (maybe pitcher), that she wouldn't be able to play, and play well.......

Truly an amazing talent!

One who comes to mind is a player I coached from age 12-14 . Jessica Blanton ( Lasers Gold now) from Wheelersburg. Cannon arm and great kid with solid bat . 1.66 pop time measured at QDSN.

Heat29, I think you are talking about the 16u team. If it is the regular catcher it is probably Liz Wilson.

There was this player that played for us down here that they called Turk ( ;) ) that I always thought was a GREAT catcher. Her family moved back to Ohio. Is she still around the Central Ohio area??? She was a S T U D

I have seen most of the catchers mentioned here and they are all excellent. I knew as soon as I saw Meagan Price a few years ago what she would mean to our team. Pretty much nothing reaches the backstop, and our pitchers know they can comfortably throw whatever pitch they want. Two of our pitchers throw a nice rise and are very tough to catch, but Meagan almost makes it look easy. We usually DP for her, so she isn't much from an offensive standpoint, but that doesn't even matter.

flarays,

Turk could be Alyssa Turkovich, she played in Florida last year and moved back to Ohio to play with the Lasers Orange in the spring. I am good friends with her, and she is a great catcher, I wished she was back on the Nightmare!! But we also have a great catcher in Kasi Vasquez - she is awesome!

We play against Rebecca Gamby in the MOAC, and had the great pleasure of being with the same team as Natalie Bagby this summer. We've also seen Kayla Ledbetter quite a few times. All are great mentions.

Gamby is physically imposing, rocket arm, great bat with huge power. First team all-Ohio this year.

Bagby is the perennial athlete - quick, versatile, competitive, also a great arm. Aside from being a great team mate, the thing I really like about Natalie is she can instantly hop into any position except pitcher and just play it extremely well. What a great asset to have on a team.

All of these girls have great futures ahead of them.

I'll take our three catchers on our 14U Lady Irish- Blue team, all three are tough as nails and capable of being a #1 catcher on most teams.

(alphabetical order lol)
Steph Baker (AW- Soph)
Julie Konieczny ( Oak Harbor- Frosh)
Jade Turpening (AW- Frosh)

I also think the Catchers for the 14u Wizards Gold and 16U new NWO Buckeye Heat are studs .

Sara Stibenar (Clay-Soph) Wizards Gold
Adreinne D ick (Delta-Soph) NWO Buckeye Heat

So many great catchers, wonderful topic. All these girls on my list have great Arms, well schooled in blocking techniques and of course all of them Mash.

I'd have to go with Kayla Ledbetter. From JH Ball to HS ball to 16U Travel Ball..........The kid has all the tools!

Stacy Roth of OSU fame. Didn't see any restrictions on past or present players for this thread, so Stacy gets my vote. AND an awesome bat - total package.

Have not seen all the catchers listed but Gamby is the real deal. OSU is interested from what we have heard, but we will have to go watch her at Upper Sandusky now as she has transfered as a senior.

I would say the best catchers would be the two that catch for "Red"(Silver) & Slammers..as for the 12u. ?I don't know their names but "Red" is #02 and Slammers is I think #07. ?Very impressive to watch! ? ;)

I believe the catcher for the Slammers is named Erica. DD had the privledge of being caught by her & said she was amazing to pitch to. She's one heck of nice young lady & not cocky at all.

I've seen the Lasers Orange catcher #44 and I believe she is the best I've seen this year.

I would have to give Taylor Webb a nod for 14U, I think she plays for the Lady Vipers but might be the Lady Hounds somewhere out of Grove City, anyway good behind the plate and a big time hitter, can't wait to see her in High School. :)

tripleplay,

Orange Lasers had that catcher hitting home runs over the fence. Blond, tall, good catcher and hitter... Saw her put one over the fence in Massillon... Wow. Definitely in the running for the best!

I usually don't post on these type of threads but wanted to give credit to my catchers of last season since they were mentioned.

#44 is Jesse Machovina (I was trying to keep her a secret but now that she has been mentioned I guess the cat is out of the bag LOL). She is one of the best, if not the best, catchers and all around athletes I have seen in a very, very long time. She can play anywhere you put her (minus pitcher) and shine. Incredibly fast as well.

#12/#1 was Kate Browne. Strong arm and hit for power. She is the blonde catcher that fancy referred to that hit a couple of homeruns in Massillon and did so in a few other tourneys.

Both are terrific kids as well. Played hard and gave the Lasers Orange a great duo behind the plate this past season.
