The difference is that some of us are in this for the girls and the love of the game, and some are.......well, I'm just not sure.

I am not a big proponent of violence, I do however think that guy needs an aluminum shampooing in the lot after the game!!!!!;&

We just had a game where the opposing catcher made a diving catch halfway up the 1st base line. All three of our coaches congratulated that girl on her hustle. It's part of being in a class organization. Everytime you put on that uniform, you are a walking commercial for your team, your community, and your organization. That is players as well as coaches, and even parents. I have seen several examples over the last 4 years where I found myself saying "thats one team my dd will never play for!" Too bad some people don't or can't understand that.

What an idiot. Do you have his e-mail address?

My dad would have made short work of him.

"Hey pervert! Don't talk to my daughter."

All that I have posted already isn't even all of it. As I look back at the incident I know that we all have at some point said or done something that we have come to realize is wrong. This Coach had a few opportunities to come to his senses, man up and apologize for his harsh words. Instead he kept digging a hole and offending people. When the mother of this pitcher approached him and asked him if he felt like a MAN harrassing a 10yr old girls his response was unrepeatable on this forum. It took alot of restraint on her Fathers part not to do something he may have regretted in front of all of or 10u girls.

Yep....I would have gone to jail that night... Make my daughter cry and say inappropriate things to my wife, I don't think I have that kind of restraint to keep from making his mouth no longer viable for chewing.

If it were me and I knew the team in question, the TD at the next tournament that we were at with them would get an earful so that he could talk to umpires and watch that team and their behavior! There will be a TD somewhere they go with the class and cahoonas (sp) to take care of the problem. ;&

TDs have to enforce a standard of conduct by teams, coaches, players, parents (spectators), and umpires. Post the rules of conduct in the information packet. That is their warning!!! When it occurs, there should be no surprise when they are escorted out of the complex.

There was a catcher that we played against at Compuware that made 3 great plays against us in ITB. All of our coaches congratulated her on an excellent performance. To me, it doesn't matter whose team you are on, if you shine, I'll always congratulate you. That is respect.

I coach first base most the time and when a 10u girl makes a great or even just a good play, I let her know, either with a high five or maybe just a great job kid. Yeah I may be coaching for a different team, but I'm a huge fan and at 10u these young ladies need to be treated like young ladies!! To laugh at a girl cause she made a bad play or call someone a name? REALLY?? I think I would of started a shoe store in someones rear!!Best of luck coach and keep'em rollin coach!

I have seen NCS coach in travel ball (and Hot Stove) give opposing players compliments...my daughter was one (opposing player) and she was really excited afterwards. As a parent, nothing is better than coaches who have class-- keep up the good work coaches!

How can you not compliment a player on an outstanding play? I sometimes find myself clapping from third base when an opposing player makes a great play.

Speaking of class and talking to players, I have to again tip my hat to the Maddogs coach for his words to my entire team after the post game "good game" line at the Madness tourney. He called them all together and had a few words for them, that left an impression on me, and our parents when I told them what he had said.

I can't believe Joe was able to hold himself back. Great job, Joe (and Jen), I don't think I could have done it. Makayla is just the sweetest kid on the planet.

Last weekend at a tournament a coach from the opposing team commented on my dd's pitching performance to a mom (not me) in the stands. Feels pretty good as a mother to know that other coaches are recognizing what she works so hard to achieve!!

Keep it up coaches, because I can't tell you what a morale booster that is to a pre-teen/teenage girl! :yahoo:

Weird. This weekend I gave five to an opposing player for the first time. She got her glove up in the circle for a wicked line drive and then had the presence of mind to get the double play on our runner who had understandably broken for home. I doubt I'll get into the business of doing this often, but when you see a really special play, it's hard not to give props.

Hey was that girl from the OFC?

We had a game yesterday where the opposing Head Coach took it upon himself to try to rattle our pitcher. While up to bat Late in the game with a 9-3 lead the coach who was seated close to the plate started saying how our batter/Pitcher couldn't hit and was just going to hit a dribbler down the 1st base line. When our hitter turned around and looked at the coach his response was "Well she does have ears and rather big ones too." After reaching 1st base on the next pitch, she told the coach what the other coach had said. Needless to say we told the umpire who acknowledged that he heard the Coach talking to our player. Words were exchanged and the umpire stopped the game with just a few minutes left on the clock.
As a Coach I believe that unless you have good to say, Coaches should not speak to opposing players.

Only something positive, as you say. I have had to say something to stop a kid from going after another player, but that is an extraordinary situation and outside the relm of the game.

I coach third and compliment other players all of the time. They are all someone's DD!!!
Last weekend I complimented the SS on a great diving catch and her coach jumped up and yelled "what did he say to you?"
I thought it was a bit over the top but now that I've seen this thread I guess he has run into butt holes like that coach.
My DD is kinda small (ok short) and pitches.
She'll go to the mound and hear from coaches and parents stuff like "oh look isn't that cute, ok girls you are gonna have to wait on it"
Her size fools people and it is awesome to hear compliments in the stands or from other coaches when they see she has the power inspite of her size and moves that ball around.
A coach this weekend was telling my wife how surprised they were by our " little pitcher" - he didn't know it was her mom.
A girl hit a triple off of her and he said he was shocked when DD told her nice hit in the good game line.
As far as this thread subject..I understand why the coach didn't go off and he deserves props for controlling himself!
I personally could probably not have been the "bigger man" and would have taught that coward that calls himself a coach a lesson.
But that's just me ;&

Last year this happened to my DD. She was playing 1st base and the opposing teams
1st base coach kept making negative comments to her about our team and coaches. She also heard him talking to the ump and the ump making negative comments about our players.

Thanks fanandfun, great game tonight!! your girls really played their hearts out I think the final was what 9-8 in 11 innings WOW!! When coaching first I've even played a game or two of tic tac toe in the dirt with the other teams firstbaseman when a team makes a pitching change! AGAIN they are young ladies treat them like it! And to be honest I stole the shoe store line myself. LOL
