Ok. We are considering attending this tournament. I am wondering from anyone who played there last year (or in the past). Where are most of the fields? Are they in Salisbury or scattered all over? We are looking into lodging and are looking about 15 minutes north but don't want to be driving another 30 minutes south...Thought maybe if we get an idea of where most of the fields are at then we can base our rental on that...thanks!

I recommend the Hampton Inn in Salisbury. It is less than 5 minutes from the main complex. The other complexes are about 20 minutes away.

We were there in 2007... all of the fields were in 1 location...a beautiful and shaded complex. We stayed in Salisbury itself, in the residence inn by marriott and it was fantastic. They had a grill on the patio that they let our entire team use for cookouts each evening, nice pool, accommodating staff and very reasonably priced (we paid $99/night).

If you stay in Salisbuy, you are less than 30 minutes from Ocean City and the boardwalk, and most importantly, go to the assuateague national park and see the wild horses. It is a incredible sight.

The Parker Complex is the main field but as HOH Force said they had us all over the place last year. 20 minutes in different directions. One day we played 3 games at 3 different parks. We stayed about 15 minutes North of Salisbury and 1 field is 15-20 minutes South.

Stay in Salisbury and book soon

Where did you see that Easterns were in Salisbury again? It's not listed on the ASA site.

Thanks

Yes, games could be played at any one of three complexes. All nice.

Be prepared though - Maryland summers rival Florida for humidity!

And here's a tip: Don't tell anyone, but, don't buy a weekend pass - they stop checking for the bracelets after Day 1. ;)

It is listed under (future tournaments) on the ASA web site

Just figured out you guys are taking about 14U...LOL (I saw that listed in future tournaments). I was looking for 16U A Easterns...it is not listed! Only Northern, Western, and Southern for 2010.

The sites for the Eastern Nationals are listed in the 2009 ASA Rule Book.

Now that's helpful! :) Thank you!

Thanks Lions!

On a side note...we went to Salisbury last summer and had a great time. Everything that's been said is true, 3 locations (Winter Park, Fruitland, Parker Complex) with the Parker Complex being the nicest (lots of shade trees), but I'd have to say that the one field at the little league park was like playing on a goat ranch...no joke! The other field there was fine. That big storm came the day we were to play down at Fruitland (the farthest from Salisbury), so we didn't actually play on the fields, but they looked nice. Best part in my book (other than the games themselves), the opening ceremonies...quite a show. :) Salisbury itself is the central location for the most part. We had families who stayed in Ocean City (fun time), but they really had to plan ahead when leaving for the games because they were farther out from the fields (a good 30 minutes east from Salisbury, if I remember correctly). We stayed in a house with friends in Berlin and were about 20 minutes east of Salibury. I guess it just depends on whether or not you mind paying a bit more for being right in the thick of things (although I do believe people did find some good deals, maybe they'll share).

Thanks everyone! I personally don't mind a little extra drive...to a point. We are looking to rent a house...to save some money...

Anyone know why this tournament changed locations? And added dates.

I hear they didn't have enough field space last year which really caused some issues.

Is the location now in LaPlata, MD? Has anyone ever been there?

Not been there but it is just outside DC and thank goodness not going there now. Not so upset they changed locations but to go from 4 days to 6 was a deal breaker for me...and I already have to take off enough unpaid days for Friday tournaments. My DC parents would have a break down if I took 2 straight weeks off...I would come back to no clients!

How many teams plans will now change because of adding the dates?

man, we loved going last year at 16's (i still bark like a maddog just because i can). The fields were kinda scattered, but staying in Salisbury at least provides you with a central location from which to venture. Some of the team stayed in Ocean City, and that was a hard place to leave, absolutely gorgeous.
dont buy a bracelet
one of the complexes is nice if you have little ones, it had a great shaded play area (my little statman found a home in one).--however there wasnt much of a place to warm-up if i remember
and make sure, promise, to have an all-u-can-eat crab feast!
