Congrats to you guys - you were the best team there and are a class outfit. Don't like losing but having coached vs. you while with Lasers and now CP, I root for you guys (when we are not playing you!)

Thanks for the clarification. Guess that we won't have to hire that home protection security service after all.

Again, congrats on winning the berth. Your team's performance over the past three weekends shows that you totally deserve that berth. The States tournament will be the lesser for not having your team there, but I think you are making the right decision to retain the berth. There will be a ton of college coaches at Chattanooga and I am sure your talented players will receive some productive looks.

ASA is taking a bath here in this thread. I haven't been around Ohio for long but when my oldest daughter played ball in Virginia in 2000 we qualified for a national tourney and at that time were told that we had to play up for the balence of the year. I think that this has gone on for a while in most states. I know that many of the girls are disappointed by not being able to compete at states and the exposure that comes with it. I would encourage all of their coaches to help their athletes remember that the pending exposure at ASA USA Nationals will be incredible for them and the experience extraodinary. I know that you all will. Exciting to hear Joe share the growth of ASA over 5 years. Hope that it continues for the good of the girls. Congrats to all that have earned berths and I trust that ASA will find a way to support you with the prepaid fees that have been spent as it is their ruling that has these fees in jeopardy. What a great group of teams that have qualified to date from our state. How about an invitational somewhere that hosts those teams for the college coaches in the area. A shame that the ASA States couldn"t put a Premiere Bracket together just for these teams for the good of the young ladies on those squads. They were all planning to be there anyway right? The tourney had already planned to have them compete so had planned for the games. Not sure that it is permitted by ASA ruling but every college looking for next level talent would be their I am sure.

Maybe it is time for a leadership change in Ohio - or possibly a boycott of ASA qualifiers next year. Can NSA step up and fill the void? They have been spanked successfully in Ohio for a few years, maybe THEY are ready to listen...

Personally, I think Ohio would do great with an appointed JO that is actually a head of a JO program.. instead of the figurehead that is in place now.

As for NSA, I cannot believe anyone is playing NSA.. especially after two years in a row not returning funds to the teams for the states they provided. Yes, you cannot help rain.... but to keep full entry fees for one or two games of 50 minutes long... well that is inexcusable :(.

But, teams keep going back to NSA for some odd reason.... I guess time heals some wounds.

As for boycotting them... I would not boycott ASA to play NSA... Never in a million years. But, I would hope these orgs that have events would just quit the nonsense that Eastern Regional Qualifiers has done to teams entering and all the ineligibility problems it has caused.

As for these poor TD's that are running state events... in 2012.. plan an event within your own state tournament for the teams that already won berths. Just a PLAIN ole' ASA tournament.. no qualifer.. no nothing.

It kills two birds with one stone. First, you can have teams there for the purpose of the college coach exposure. Secondly, you might find some teams that have no need for a USA/ASA National berth as they don't want to attend in the first place. Thus, the ones who don't want to attend.. can jump in the tournament with the "berth winners". And the ones with the desire to have a "berth".. can play in the state tournament.

It isn't rocket science people.

Thus, ALL the 16u teams get seen by the college coaches who attend the 16u States.

Nice post Quaker - why couldn't the teams that qualified already play a round robin on a field in Findlay? They would get the college exposure and not take away from anyone else trying to qualify. I haven't gone back and read the past 15 pages so this may have already been suggested...

It is indeed a great idea, which would be beneficial for everyone attending. You could also take it a step further after the qualification round, and have the winners of the two brackets play for the State Championship at the conclusion of the USA/ASA qualifying and the round-robin brackets.

Goals achieved .....

1. Unimpeded qualifying for 4 additional teams ....... check
2. EVERYBODY is in Findlay for a) Exposure, b) Competition ....... check
3. A true ASA State Champ by Sunday sundown ....... check

I don't care if qualified teams play in the state tourney or not. But since they are not allowed how about this:

If you are a qualified team and you want to play in any type of qualifier, you put your bid back up for grabs. So say the state is giving out four bids, and four qualified teams want to play in it, now thier are eight bids up for grabs. JMO

Addresses again.

Here is what we got off of the internet for Van Buren. Addresses were not include in the coaches' email:

Van Buren Community Sportplex
12869 S.R. 613
Van Buren, OH 45889
If you are coming on I 75 you want Exit 164, S.R. 613E

Findlay High School address is 1200 Broad Ave. The softball field is on the south side of the school property. Most of the trees back there are gone. The land has been cleared to make way for a new varsity softball field. The current varsity field will become the jv field.

Both Rawson Park and Cooper Field are just south of the Findlay High School on Broad Ave. Well at least you can see both from Broad. Rawson Park is 720 River Street, Cooper Field is 201 Broad Ave.

Riverside is 219 McManness Ave. The field is on the north side of the park. The park itself has a couple dozen shelterhouses, tons of shade trees, canoe & pedal boats rentals, YMCA run pool, 3 playgrounds

There just has to be a way for the teams that won berths..to get to be seen. Isn't this what it is all about ??

I can tell you from experience.. Warren Jones might balked at the idea of a tournament within a tournament. Of course, he would expect full concentration on the 16u States when it rains and those fields have to get back up and running. Priorities.

I would suggest a round robin on Friday and Saturday only ----- 3 games each day and use two fields for the "berth winner's event".

If Warren balks at this type of event within the State 16u event... then run it another sanction and play ASA rules. :p

I'll tell ya... if ASA doesn't make this type of event available to the "berth teams" in 2012... I will for them in a nearby city.

I have no problem as a Global State Director to run an event based on ASA rules :p. Make the round robin so cheap you couldn't afford NOT to go.

Let's see 6 games

35.00 per team per game .................................. $210.00
3 new balls ...( I use NCAA balls ) ........................$ 15.00
% of field rental costs ..Divided equally with all the team $ ???
NO gate. Coolers allowed.

Actually , probally cheaper than the state tournament.

FRIDAY SCHEDULE

10:30 am 5-6.................... 7-8
12:00 Noon 1-3 ................ 2-4

SATURDAY SCHEDULE

12:00 Noon 1-7 ................ 2-6

3:00 p.m. 1-8 ................... 2-5

Just some food for thought as well. Parents can spend for motel on Thursday and Friday night .. headed home on Saturday night. Relax on Sunday at home

VS

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday motel costs for State Tournament

If I was a coach that already won a "berth" before states .....

You'd have to absolutely NUTS to give up your USA/ASA National berth to play in Ohio States.

exactly. who in their right mind would trade a won bid for just a chance to play to win a bid? It's not like your are not being exposed to college coaches at the nationals. and from all the recruiting threads on here over the years, there are plenty of ways to get recruited.

I agree Woolfman.

Why spend the money to qualify at an earlier tournament ... and then give the "berth" back just to play States.

I see coaches being "tarred and feathered" for that move.

@Cgs
We didn't see very many college coaches at the Dayton Metro, so the teams that really need the exposure might forego the qualifiers to ensure they play in state where there are a large number of college coaches in attendance!!

That tournament was held during an NCAA "dead" period...Div I & II coaches weren't allowed to be out recruiting. I am sure many would have loved to have been there...great teams and great ball played.
