GAPSS Scores- POST HERE

I want to make it know that GAPSS has, in a few short years, evolved into one of the best tournaments in Ohio. Greta, Mike and his crew worked hard and the proof is in the pudding. The fields were lined (with a batters box!) before each game. The competition was great. The staff was the friendliest that I have ever met. That makes for a great time for everyone.

For those who have never been to a GAPSS tournament - put it on your list. This is one of the best you will attend.

Thanks Johnnies,

Coming from you, who has been to many many tournaments, those words mean a lot. We try to train our fine volunteers that the reason they are helping is because they are ultimately helping our teenagers (and some non-teenagers!) have a great time....and we want the coaches and fans to have a great time as well.

We work hard...but we should work hard for the fees we charge. Countless times this past weekend I heard about other tournaments and how bad they are. They take your money and never see them again. Fields are never lined, help is nasty. etc. etc. That amazes me....Overall, I have heard many positive comments about GAPSS. However, we need to get better in some areas. They will be addressed in the fall meeting.

I'll add my congrats to Mike and the GAPSS staff. I have enjoyed very much playing the last 2 years. I know what goes into running a tournament and I feel we have pretty good one but still trail GAPSS in the service they bring to the table and the competiton is great. I know my young team grows up a lot after this tournament.

I would like to see maybe 1:20 time limts though.

Mike,

I echo everything that everyone says positive of GAPSS and their parent volunteers. Keep up the good work and all the work your board puts in to make this tourney one of the best collection of teams and by far the best for players & fans for the conditions of ALL the sites!

Congratulations to Mike and the Turbos organization. This is our 3rd GAPSS and the best by far. The girls/parents worked hard over the hot weekend to make it happen. The feedback (in order of importance) is mostly about small things or stuff out of their control:

1. Get better softballs!!!! The "slippery mush balls" are not fun for hitters, pitchers, fielders or fans.

2. Use temporary outfield fences at LHS.

2. Concessions at LHS gets a "C". Limited selections, not close to the action.

3. No paper towels in the restroom.

4. LHS atmosphere gets a "C" because fields are not close enough to watch two games at the same time. (This would be an out-of-their-control item.)

NCS,

Thanks for the comments. ?We will be addressing the concession issues, the location of concessions at our next board meeting. ?Personally I hate the way they built the fields at LHS. ?Too far away (1 & 2, cant watch both games, I hear you). ? ?As for the balls, we supplied 1 new one and 1 used one per game. ?The used balls came from balls that had their first life as new balls in this tournament (does this make sense?). ? ?We can not have mushy balls. ?Are u saying the Worth ball is mushy? ?Personally, I like the Dudley ball better, jmho. ?We followed the HS rule this year. ? I also agree 1:10 is too short....we are addressing that....The fences at LHS...(I will think about). And those paper towels....darn staff!!! ::)

Lions, you host a nice tourney as well. ? It is our GAPSS board philosophy to be the best tournament in Ohio, and we strive to make that happen. ? I don't think I am better than anyone else. ?Each TD has to direct their staff the way we want them to work. ? I told the staff we are hosting for one reason: ?FOR THE GIRLS PLAYING. ? We just want them to play on nice fields with actual lines. ? ?

Keep the suggestions coming! ?This is the only way we can get better!

Also, the shirt selection was not very good. The tournament and competition was fantastic.

I agree here as well. We have struggled with shirts for 4 straight years now. I am revamping that whole department so that we can have some different options next year.

I agree with all the positives towards the tournament. Couple of nice young guys working at the Arrowhead location (empying trash etc.) Maybe a porta-john a little closer to the front field. We had to shuttle a couple girls during a game. Those darn girls!! I know theirs not much you can do about it but, how about that 7- mile fence with no gate?

Great tourney!!

corn27. You should have played 14u at Shanon Middle School. The port o potty was right next to 3B and when they came to clean it out during our game they scattered our fans real quick. WOW what a smell.

Great Job by the GAPSS personnel. excellent tournament and competition.
Congrats 12U tidalwaves.
Buckeye Heat 12U----Excellent job. this is one tough team with lots of respect for the competition. no hard feelings when you lose to a team like this. ;)

As a suggestion, the Wrestling Boosters for TWHS used a vendor this winter for one of their events that printed the Tournament t-Shirts as you stood there. I should have the contact information somewhere if you want it.

I agree that the weekend was a success however, who ever set up the 14U bracket really didn't do a very good job. I don't understand how a number one seed out of a pool can end up playing 4 games in one day and end up playing another number one seed right off the bat Saturday morning. I think a couple of teams really got screwed in this situation.

sluj,

If you have been around the game as long as I have it is called....

The luck of the draw
. Some unpredictable thing can happen in double elim. That is called softball. To infer a conspiracy is showing some ignorance of the game.

Thanks Johnnies for explaining.

DE with 21 teams will propose some different bracket situations. We used a software program to do this; we didn't compose it ourselves. Trust me, no human set this bracket up. I don't know if I am going to use the same software next year. I too didn't like some of the brackets. But that is part of the DE issue.

It was a good tournament but there were a few things that could be improved:

Liberty Park-restrooms had no way to lock the door, could be pretty embarassing...

The shirts were terrible and nobody wears those type tank tops anymore, it is just not cool.

I heard a ton of spectators complaining there was no pop at the concession stands.

Other than that no complaints!

I have to admit that I had a hard time swallowing a slice of pizza or a hot dog without a diet Coke. I had to have my fix of carbonation. I like that there was water and Gatorade for those who like those, and I do also to quench a thirst or to rehydrate - but don't deny me my diet Coke with a meal.

I am not a shirt buyer so I have no opinion - but the minor complaints - mine included- does not in the least diminish the quality of this tournament. I know Mike and Greta have made note of everything discussed here and will address every concern to make this even better next year.

I am actually proud that this fantastic tournament is held in central Ohio even though I do not help run this tournament. I like that fact that it helps put central Ohio on the map for "must" tournaments to attend. I would not be surprised it it does not rivals Compuware in a few short years. That summarizes the confidence I have in the staff at this venue.
