I was sitting right next to home plate when the play happened. Actually, the runner tried to steal home on a passed ball and did not slide...but the catcher did not dive on her. The team was celebrating because of the fact that the Inferno had beaten the Stingrays the day before. In fact, they were very excited about the win since they went 0-2 in pool play. The coaches DID NOT run out to the plate. They stayed right next to the dugout, and yes, they were celebrating, but when they realized that the girl was hurt, they calmed down and the asst coach went to ask if she was okay and was met with a very snide remark. Sometimes injuries occur, and fortunately in this situation, it was not serious. Unfortunately, sometimes people get upset when their dd team loses, and things get misconstrued. It's hard to tell what really goes on from up in the viewing area. The 10u Stingrays coaches acted a lot better than some coaches I have seen. They did not mean any disrespect whatsoever.

Great job to the Stingrays and much respect to the Dragons, who had also beat the Stingrays the day before, and fought tooth and nail to the very end! Great job to both teams!

Was it just my imagination or was pitching way down at this tourney. I saw maybe 2 girls that were throwing in the 40's(one from the Inferno and one from the Dragon's) and only the one pitcher from the Dragon's had a solid change-up. I know it's early in the season but teams better be ready to field balls this year. Any thoughts???

I don't get to many 10U tourneys, but with most of these girls just a couple years removed from coach pitch, I felt the pitching was pretty good.

The pitcher from the Dragons is actually a Heart Xtreme Pitcher .She throws Low-Mid 40's excellent change-up .They also have a girl throwing upper 40's with a good change-up.

(3) From what we have seen and experienced, an average pitcher in most parts of the U.S. would have pitching speeds somewhat like this for her age:

11-years old - High 30's to Mid 40's

12-years old - Low 40's to Upper 40's

13-years old - Mid 40's to Low-50's

14-years old - 50+

Average high school pitcher - 53-57 mph

I cut and pasted this off a web site on the West coast that instructs pitching in Calf. The web site is one of the best in terms of pitching instructions. If these 10U's are in the 40's that is very good! I'm guessing most probably turned 11 , after Jan 1. I watched the 10U' pitch at the GFOD and I thought they all did excellent for that age. I think our expectation level of how fast they are throwing is a little high!
