I have another DD that is going to try and make a 10U team this year, I am curious as to what Avg, pitching speeds are at this level. My oldest DD is 17 so its been quite a while since I have dealt with the 10U age level.

Thanks!

You will see a range of 36-46 for the majority of pitchers... your 'older' teams will have a girl that throws 46-50 as their #1, but I would estimate that about 1 in 4 teams we faced this season had a pitcher go above 46.

Thanks guys!

WG my middle DD is 8, I have another that is 4, so I will probably be around for awhile, My middle DD goes by Maddog and is a slapper although she is cocky as heck, she will be a lot of fun to watch LOL

My dd is a pitcher and throws 46-48 (fast, drop & change) and this year we have seen quite a few girls throwing low 50's and I have seen two throw a screw and a rise in addition to the other three...on average..probably 45-49

Average speed? I'm guessing 5 or 6 mph lower than what folks say it is. Kinda like 40 times and 100m dash times that show up in late-April but disappear in late-May. ;)

Agree with Wildfire. There are a number of pretty good teams with their best pitcher throwing around 40. There are some very elite teams with pitchers in the 50s for sure, but the real average for a solid pitcher on good teams would probably be high 30s to low to mid 40s.

True story - DD was playing for a team last season and the coach said she was on the phone with someone discussing another player and this guy started telling her about a pitcher she really needed to recruit. He saw her in 10U and she could throw 60 mph! Turned out it was my DD he was talking about - who threw a solid 45 at the time. :lmao: Imagine the coaches shock when she found out my DD had been holding back. :lmao::lmao:

When you ask a parent how fast their DD pitches, you should ask how and by which instrument she was clocked. I had a Dad tell me his DD threw a solid 44-46. One day at a free clinic I asked him if he wanted me to catch her so he could see what she was doing. I caught her and if I had to guess, she may have been at 35. Well I then asked him if he wanted to catch my DD. I told my DD to let it rip. Well he was so shocked by the "speed" he fell of the bucket and was holding his hand. He asked how fast was that, and I said, she was clocked by a jugs radar topping out at 45 so I would say less then that since she really isn't warm yet. To this day, he never talks speed!

The keys at 10U are being able to spot your fastball and throw a good change-up. Mid 40's is good and 50+ is elite. Other pitches with movement are a bonus.

with the days of 43' upon us(at least for 14u? and up) forget about flat out speed.

Rotation, rotation, rotation

A few weeks ago there was thread bout some of the premier 10u pitchers & how fast they throw. After hearing some of these claims of 55mph and up I have brought my radar gun along to the tournaments and "gunned" at least 14 different 10u pitchers. What I have found is the average 10u pitcher is throwing between 38-42mph. There have been 3 girls at 43-47mph., and 4 girls at 48-52 with the exception of one girl consistently at 54+. I know that radar guns are not exact, but at a +/- 1mph, it gets you close.

Yeah I have been through all the pitchers parents speed claims, at the Queens of diamonds showcase maybe 3% of the pitchers there hit 60MPH on their radar guns.

I was more curious as to what speed should my DD be practicing on, just kind of a referance point for her.

For hitting, if she can hit 42-45mph on a jugs machine she will be well prepared for 10u.

one of my most consistent pitchers this year was probably only throwing around 33-35 but cold hit her spots and had a 21mph change up. We called it the bugs bunny because it looked like a cartoon in slow motion

This is a very wise man. Find a speed gun, let your DD throw 10 pitches after she is good and loose. Take the average of the 10 pitches. Add 10 MPH if she plays "A" ball, or 5 MPH if she plays "B". If she plays "Rec. subtract 3 MPH. When you get that total subtract her age and then divide by her age then multiply by the year she was born. Never mind, I forget!:yahoo:
