I have to reply to this. First of all Marie is awesome! Second are you kidding me 10u pitchers that are throwing screwballs and rise balls? Or do you mean inside fastballs and High fastballs. You have to throw it the HIGH 50's to get these pitches to work. Believe me I have a 13 yr old dd who throws pretty hard (no I wont brag about her speed) and she is just learning to control these pitches. There is no way a 10 yr old or 11 yr old could have the physical strength and control to throw these pitches. Get serious people in 10u you just want strikes and if your dd has movement with speed than she is blessed.

we don't have our girls know where near these pitches. I will say location is incredible and with K/BB ratios of 4:1 or better life is pretty good. From what I know those pitches aren't too realistic at 10u. A fastball, a nasty change, and a drop ball is the best we've got. The drop ball doesn't work every time but 80% or more it's on. Even with all this wonderful sounding location and pitching options, pb's/wp's still show up in the pitching log... fun to watch. Nice thing about being a coach is you get to enjoy wonderful pitching like this when it comes around.

My first year of coaching 10u we had a girl that had good control and threw right at 47 - 50 mph. My second year of coaching 10u we had another girl throwing 52 - 54 with decent control. the thing about throwing that hard at 10u is most kids cant hit that speed when you hit your spots so the change up was rarely used until the batters convinced us that they could hit the fastball. Now the first girl is playing 13u she still throws hard but she has a ton of movement. The second girl is playing 12u and throws really hard and has legitimate breaking pitches.

Well I would say for a young 10u (9,10) it would be around 38-42, & for an older 10u (10,11) it would probably be around 42-46 ish? But there are some who can reach 50+ kudos to them! :)

My DD is 9u and throws solid 40 --42 mph. I tried to get her some fill in games this year, but when I say her speed everyone thinks to slow for travel ball. Probably would have gotten a few more games in if I would have said 45. I watched allot of 10u games this year and only seen 1 girl throwing obviously harder than my DD. Looks like many are inflating the speeds, but I now understand why.

Come watch us and the Hawks play this weekend and see for yourself. Both have pitchers that throw consistantlty 45-49 mph. Only thing I like to inflate is my paycheck... If a DD throws in the lower 40's and did so in the tournaments we've played as this year (mainly ASA-A) that is very very hittable and could make for a long game. Another 3-5 mph will make it tougher and is a huge difference in run production or lack there of. The ones that TRULY throw upper 40's and the elite that that throw in the 50's at 10u are nearly unhittable. Just more of a challenge for the inexperienced 10u's that have to face her. And I'll let you use our gun to see for yourself. I don't brag but when comments about inflating responses is pretty generalized without pointing them out I like to respond (without attitude). Apparantly you haven't been to the games where these speeds are actually happening. I'll also say our girls that throw this hard have been run ruled and had some good luck with a combined 7 or 8 no hitters and several perfect games. Talking with an average of < 3 walks per game for the year. Speed and control are in check.

Are you ready Lester ?!!!!

KK and Aubrey should hook up for a good one! I really hope we meet at the Championship game on Sunday as well.

My 2c is that I have watched KK all season ... her record this year is 34-8 .. she has several no-hitters and just missed a perfect game this weekend. We put the gun on her about every other tourney .. she has been at 46-48 most all season, with peaks in low 50's every once in a while. Her change is around 34, and rise ball 48 or so. We have not been run ruled all season - we beat the Sting 10-9 in the Wilmington Championship game and that was the most runs she has given up all season. It was her 3rd straight 7 inning game and she dropped to 44 mph and the Sting hit her hard for 2 innings.

She gave up 7 runs to the Lasers and Nitro at GAPSS - but only 4 runs after 4 innings in both cases. She held them in check and she only gave up 2 extra base hits in 8 games she pitched that weekend. I would have to look back but I think other than the Sting game she has never given up more than 7 runs. She spots the ball and changes speed when needed .. as we have seen that keeps the hitting teams in check much more than just heat - real good teams will hit any pitcher bringing it if they don't work their spots.

We have seen Lester's girl come on strong .. with her build he will have something special for a long time to come... I can't wait until we play this fall at 11u .. should be interesting!

Hope so! Aubrey started at 31-33 at tryouts and is remarkable at this point considering the start. Hannah (which is out on vacation this weekend) is also in the same boat. Awesome developement for 2 first year pitchers. Wait till next year for Aub! She has the goods and has a work ethic that is 2nd to none. Actually, all my pitchers love to work-good problem to have. I'm sure all the elite teams (top 10-20 10u teams on OFC poll) have DD's with similar work ethic. Love to see them strive to be on top!!

KK will be tough as always and we love playing you guys. You've had our number all year except the heart breaking 1-0 loss to you early on and another win we got on you but you're ahead by a bit :) and I'm sure we'll have epic battles for years to come! Just hope to play fundamental and get our girls a strong outting for the last tourney before tryouts. After Florida we looked pretty good and hope to tap into that play! See you then!!!

Wow Lester! Never seen your team play this year only commenting on the team's I've seen. The fastest pitcher I watched was clearly throwing in the 50+area. Funny thing is after 3 innings she started getting hit. No matter how fast you throw it down the middle waste high you will get hit.

Whoa, I never said anything about screwballs and riseballs. Maybe I should have said movement to the low part of the zone. Her pitches are Fastball, 2 changeups, peel drop, and rollover drop. She will be working on a curveball in the off season. She is 11 years old and is low to mid 50's right now. By the way she is 5'5 and 115 lbs, so she's a little bigger than an average 11 year old.
I do agree with you that Marie is awesome. She gets along very well with my dd. Made a big diffrence in her control, and got her on the rollover drop in like 2 lessons. (wicked pitch, kills my shins!:()
