Lasers Orange took 4th place at the PGF Super Select Midwest Championship going 6-2 on the weekend. This was our first tourney since the fall, but the girls came out on fire. We lost our first bracket play game 1-0 in the last inning to Finesse-Hool (eventual champ) in an amazing game of 12U softball . We then had to fight our way out of the losers bracket notching 3 more wins until we ran out of gas. Overall we kept the other teams in check with our pitching and defense posting 2 shutouts and only had one game where the opponent scored more than 2 runs (elimination game).

Pool Play
W Wolfpack- Wolff
W Finesse- Munoz

Bracket Play
W Pittsburgh Spirit Gold (PA)
L Finesse-Hool (MI)
W Firecrackers-Klonica (MI)
W Thunder Elite
W Indiana Magic Gold-Bennett/Goddard (IN)
L Bats Academy National (WI)

Lasers Orange Record 21-5-1
vs Ohio teams 13-1-1
vs Out of State teams 8-4

***Key Wins***

Ok, everyone has been waiting for it, so let's get it out here. Several Coaches didn't think what a team had done since September should count, because they were not actually playing that week. So, let's keep that thought going and vote for how a team actually did this week.

Ohio Wolfpack - Wolff
0-4 for the weekend

We definitely had a rough weekend...
Started off the PGF Super Select with playing the Lasers Orange and getting beat 8-0. Then come back and face the Finesse Munoz team and get beat 8-4 all in pool play on Friday.
Saturday was a new day but we still just couldn’t find a way to score runs and got beat 6-0 by the Michigan Renegades which put us in the loser bracket to face the Pittsburgh Spirit Gold where the bats started to get hot, but We ended up getting eliminated 9-8.
We will regroup and come back next weekend hopefully hungry and stronger!
We will be in Ashland for the Veterans Memorial Tournament.

If last weeks key number was 19 is this weeks key number........(can somebody tell me if O-fer is a number?). (Just kidding, I don’t want to start anymore trouble, I get enough of that in the 10u polls. Speaking as a ranked team that also went 0-4 this weekend albeit at 10u, the signs of a good team aren’t how you act when you win, they’re how you react after you lose. If Wolfpack really is a top team they will figure out a way to get back on track within a week or two. Only time will tell.( From what I have read on here I have a feeling there will be people rooting hard on both sides of that statement.)

Nothing to hide here!

The Ohio Storm 08 was off this past weekend. Eight of our players were involved with their middle school softball teams from the end of February through May 8. During that time, the Storm squeezed in the 12U Winter Classic and the Future Stars Event. The Storm finally gets back on the dirt this weekend in Ashland at the 2021 Veterans Memorial against 21 other 12U teams. This will be the start of an 8 week stretch of tournaments, ending with the USSSA Road to the Beach Nationals in Ft. Walton Beach Florida July 11-18. Good Luck to all teams this weekend.

As far as Wolfpack Wolff's rough weekend. We all have had, and will have rough weekends. They will bounce back, because they always do. The team I watched play in Marion at the Future Stars, was not the same team I followed at the PGF. It happens, they will learn from it, as we all do. Whether they are #1 or #20, doesn't matter to me, because I expect them to be back on their game this upcoming weekend. These rankings are going to change over the coming weeks, that's the way it is and has always been.

JMO....If you want to get on here and trash a coach, go ahead, we are all grown men and women, but leave the teams out of it. They are just 11,12 & 13 year old girl's playing the game they love, and they could care less where they are ranked, or where you think they should be ranked.

Finesse- Musser is 36-24-2 on the season, went 0-4 at PGF this weekend and is 21-10-2 since March 1st first winning battle at berliner and total St Pattys day tourneys. We have 2 key injuries really affecting us including a main pitcher and our do everything kid. Not an excuse for how we played at times this weekend, however. We are off until Firefighters Memorial in a couple weeks.
Scores from this weekend:
IMG Bennet/ Goddard 4-2
Finesse- Hool 9-1
Newton Rock National 7-3
Finesse Munoz- 8-1

Beverly Bandits DeMarini 09
Coaches: Matt Bailey, Dale Carr, Ty Ault

What I Am VOTING THIS WEEK
Laser Orange 08 - 1 (they haven't moved from my 1 yet, proven this weekend)
Beverly Bandits 09 - 2 (quality weekend in Crown Point)
Ohio Stingrays 08 - 3 (Redfern proved this weekend, they a contender)
Ohio Storm 08 - 4 (wish would of seen you in PGF, but really good team right here)
TE 08 - 5 (great showing this weekend, only team I haven't physically seen)
Ohio Hawks Hutch - 6 (off weekend, has athletes from top to bottom)
Ohio Wolfpack 08 - 7 (off weekend, well coached, fundamentally sound, best defense around)
Finesse Munoz 08 - 8 (solid team, great pitching, hitters all through lineup, good weekend)
Ohio Rebels 08 - 9 (good weekend, wish they would play in more big tourneys)
Finesse Musser HOF - 10 (streaky team similar to us, can beat anyone on this list)

11. Outlaws MAZ (love this team, great coach, great girls)
12. Emeralds 08 (haven't seen much of this team, heard they are great)
13. Emeralds 09 (can snake bite you, girls are gritty tough and never give up)
14. Lasers Black 09 (great athletes, really good pitching)
15. Cobras 08 (haven't seen much of this team, but well respected)

This years RECORD (9/1/20-present) 66-26-4

Anyone can beat another team any day of the week, but to consistently go through a BIG tournament with your top teams with longer games, you have to grind. You are only as good as your 3rd and 4th pitcher many of these times, plus you are only as good as your 2nd or 3rd catcher because these PGF tournaments many of times aren't your ONE-HIT wonders were you can just ride an ace the entire tournament. These other BS tourney 65 minute pool play drop dead or 70 ASA/USSSA bracket play stuff you can ride an ace the entire tournament.

PGF Crown Point -- 3rd Place Finish losing to the older 08 Bandits in the semifinals

Dangit Guys, lol.... I will full fledge LOBBY for my girls this weekend. I am 12-2-1 in the State of Ohio, with 1 of these losses as a drop dead friendly where we didn't get to bat in the last inning. STORM08 beat me in 3-1 friendly in a great FULL 7 inning game. I for sure own up to that loss and Pollard Girls played great and beat us. We played back to back that day and played vs Hool and lead by 3 late in the game and lost again in almost a full game 6-5. Pretty sure they just won the PGF Midwest 12U Premier division. Bats Academy National came in 3rd in the Premier Division who barely beat NWI Sox 08 in ITB the week before... NWI Sox 08 had another quality win beat Hool earlier this Spring also. We beat NWI Sox 08 this weekend in the Sweet Sixteen 6-3, along with Indy Shockwaves 08 Duel 13-1 in quarterfinals.. Duel had some close battles with Storm08, Orange08, and a 4-1 loss to Hool in the Fall.

No one wants to get beat by a younger team, no one, it is great to see that my girls are getting better facing all these Aces!! We only want the best, and for Finesse Mohawk, dude has had to have the extra 3 outs in a drop dead tournament twice to try to to beat my girls and then cries to play the game right. You had equal amount of at bats earlier in the game bro. WAY TO GET THAT TIE!!!

Ohio results 12-2-1
Ohio Hawks Hutcheison08 W 5-0*
Ohio Stingrays08 W 3-1*
Finesse Munoz 08 OH W 5-3*, T 6-6
Ohio Outlaws08 Masiello W 5-3*, W 8-1*
Ohio Hawks Ford08 W 10-2*
Ohio Storm08 W 3-2, L 3-1

We played the baby 09 division at PGF Super Select this past weekend and went 3-2. Fought hard against tough teams and the third team on the field (as many teams seemed to!) we outscored our 5 opponents 37-19 only losing (2) 1-run games to teams from out of state. In all honesty, we should have gone farther IMO. Team is solid and we are back to full strength as my top arm was able to pitch at a limited rate. We will only get stronger from here.
We are off this coming weekend and Firefighters the week after, then start a 5 week stretch that includes a trip to PGF mojo invite in Tennessee. As many of the teams saw this weekend, PGF is a different beast than the typical weekend! That’s why I have challenged my crew with 5 PGF events this year!

Coaches, I want to introduce myself in case you are paying attention to the others receiving votes section and saying, who is Cobras 08? I know a lot of you, but not some. I was blessed with all daughters. I fell in love with this game. When played at its highest level, there is nothing better than it. I took over our local rec league in Concord OH (about 30 minutes east of Cleveland on Lake Erie) when my daughter was playing age 4. I wanted to build excitement in the area about the game and breed local talent. I started out with 1 Cobras tournament team when my daughter was playing age 9. We got smoked. I focused on making adjustments and continuing to work to be better. All this to say, our team has grown by leaps and bounds over the years because they stayed committed to the process. We played in the fall and had 3 losses. 1x to Wolfpack Wolff (semis) and 2x to Ohio Hawks Hutch (pool play and championship). We played in an indoor tournament over the winter and lost to Finesse Musser in the championship 4-3. This spring season we started our tournament play in the Mogadore Wildcat Classic. We finished runners up to Wolfpack Wolff 8-5. In bracket play, we beat Ohio Ice Blue, Akron Racers 08, and Finesse Musser. This past weekend we played in the May Mayhem tournament and won the championship over Ohio Emeralds 08 Sirohman 6-3. In bracket play, we beat Ohio Rebels, Erie Frost, and Silver Creek. This weekend we play in the Firestone Frenzy tournament in Akron. Whoever does these polls, thanks for your time and effort doing them. For all those that add comments, I love it. We are all lucky to be a part of this, I know I am. Hope to see you all in tournaments throughout the summer. Dave Granchi – 440-477-2043 or you can find me at CobrasGranchi on facebook as well. I wrote this and then when I went to post it I saw Bandits 09 put us 15th and said they have not seen much of us but we are well respected. Appreciate that coach! I hope to get more and more exposure for our players.
