Coaches, I want to introduce myself in case you are paying attention to the others receiving votes section and saying, who is Cobras 08? I know a lot of you, but not some. I was blessed with all daughters. I fell in love with this game. When played at its highest level, there is nothing better than it. I took over our local rec league in Concord OH (about 30 minutes east of Cleveland on Lake Erie) when my daughter was playing age 4. I wanted to build excitement in the area about the game and breed local talent. I started out with 1 Cobras tournament team when my daughter was playing age 9. We got smoked. I focused on making adjustments and continuing to work to be better. All this to say, our team has grown by leaps and bounds over the years because they stayed committed to the process. We played in the fall and had 3 losses. 1x to Wolfpack Wolff (semis) and 2x to Ohio Hawks Hutch (pool play and championship). We played in an indoor tournament over the winter and lost to Finesse Musser in the championship 4-3. This spring season we started our tournament play in the Mogadore Wildcat Classic. We finished runners up to Wolfpack Wolff 8-5. In bracket play, we beat Ohio Ice Blue, Akron Racers 08, and Finesse Musser. This past weekend we played in the May Mayhem tournament and won the championship over Ohio Emeralds 08 Sirohman 6-3. In bracket play, we beat Ohio Rebels, Erie Frost, and Silver Creek. This weekend we play in the Firestone Frenzy tournament in Akron. Whoever does these polls, thanks for your time and effort doing them. For all those that add comments, I love it. We are all lucky to be a part of this, I know I am. Hope to see you all in tournaments throughout the summer. Dave Granchi – 440-477-2043 or you can find me at CobrasGranchi on facebook as well. I wrote this and then when I went to post it I saw Bandits 09 put us 15th and said they have not seen much of us but we are well respected. Appreciate that coach! I hope to get more and more exposure for our players.

Great Post Dave....

The Lasers Black 09 team went 3-2 at the PGF in North Ridgeville. While we didn’t play bad, I felt we were somewhat flat all weekend after being off the past 2 weekends. We started out 3-0 before losing to Indiana Gators 09 (09 Champs) followed by our final game which was a loss to St Louis Chaos. It was a great experience facing good competition from unfamiliar opponents.

On a side note, as far as 12u, I was able to catch a few of the 08 games and came away very impressed with several teams. With no disrespect to any 12u team as I didn’t get to see too many games, the Finesse Hool, Lasers Orange 08 and Stingrays 08 were all impressive. Wolfpack Wolff had a rough weekend (who hasn’t?) however I have no doubt they are still a top 08 team. Lady Rebels 08 looked solid and had a nice tournament. In the 09 field, I thought the Outlaws Frengel, Stingrays 09 and Emeralds 09 all had pretty good weekends!

Best of luck to everyone next weekend

Pool Play
Win vs Inter Lakes Pride 09 6-2
Win vs Outsiders 09 8-1

Elimination
Win vs Long Island 2027 (ITB) 9-8
Loss vs Indiana Gators 1-7
Loss vs St Louis Chaos 1-4

Hello everyone. Since Coach Granchi took the leap, I figured I might as well too. My name is Jeremy Bolon. I am an assistant coach for the Lady Rebels 08. I would like to thank everyone for the recognition of the girl’s hard work. I do want to point out that we are Lady Rebels 08 not Ohio Rebels. We started this team 3 years ago as a rec all star team in search of competition to push our girls. Over the years the team has morphed into what it is today, and this fall we brought Coach Ball on to be our head coach. We have improved our schedule (below) each year as we feel our girls need it. I still consider myself new to the travel scene, but I am always amazed how generous the softball community is as a whole. I look forward to seeing some of you again and meeting others.

Hawks 08 Hutcheison was in Crown Point this past weekend for the PGF Showdown. It was a great event to be at. We only had 9 girls this weekend (missing a catcher/3 hitter, a pitcher, and cf.) Unfortunately, Saturday was one of “those” days for us. We went 0-3 on the day.. realistically should’ve been 2-1. When you play in these types of events, giving up free bases/extra outs will haunt you.

We lost to Beverly Bandits 08 Premier 12-5. We walked 8 and had a couple errors that led to two big innings. Lost to Missouri Bombers 10-6… we outhit them 12-4, but walked them 8 times and had 4 errors. Finally lost to IMG 08 Bogunia 5-4. We led the entire game, but IMG hit a 2 run HR with two outs in top of the 6th to take the lead. We had the tying run on third in the bottom of the 6th but couldn’t get her home. Hats off to IMG in that one. I couldn’t tell you the last time we didn’t win a game in pool play.

Unfortunately, our performance in pool play didn’t give us the easiest road in bracket play on Sunday. On a positive note, we came out strong on Sunday with a little more energy and won our first bracket game 12-2. Our next game was against Beverly Bandits 08 Demarini. We jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but couldn’t hang on to that lead… There’s a reason they’re the number one team in the country. We lost 10-1. We went with 3 different pitchers throughout the game to try and give them different looks and throw off their timing… didn’t work out the way we hoped. Gotta get more runs on the scoreboard. Looking for bright spots, 08 Demarini only gave up runs in two of their seven games all weekend (3 runs total).. one of those was to us.

Certainly was not our best showing, but hopefully it was the kick in the butt that we needed. One bad day can make it that much harder for you in bracket play… especially in a PGF event like that.

We are off this weekend. We have some things to work on and clean up before we head to Buffalo (Aunt Rosie’s) Memorial Day weekend. Looking forward to checking out Niagara Falls and seeing some teams from NY and PA! After that we are playing up in a couple 14u USA events, then Five Alarm, PGF Firecracker, Stingrays, and Triple Crown East Coast Summer Nationals.

So we really doing it in the open, ok:
1. Lasers Orange (if you saw PGF you know why)
2. Bev Bandits 09 (T3 in an 08 PGF, plus week before)
3. Stingrays 08 (solid, big and hungry! Welcome to the season)
4. TE Vogan (consistently gaining strength)
5. Finesse Munoz (solid team with great pitching)
6. Wolfpack08 (rough last 5 games, giving them another week)
7. Lady Rebels 08 (great pitching, scrappy and finds your weakness well)
8. Hawks Hutchinson 08 (went to wrong event to get noticed more)
9. Cobras 08 (solid team trying to beef schedule up now that team is there!)
10. OhioEmeralds’09 (if I don’t believe, why should you?)

Teams I didn’t vote for this week and why: (no order)

Ohio Storm 08 (will vote in when they come back)
Outlaws 08 Masiello (you can’t miss PGF with your team)
Ohio Emeralds 08 sir (plays well against top comps, just not in the top events to show everyone)
Ohio Lasers Black (solid team and we will battle for the next 5-6 years back and forth)

This is my honest opinion, might be right or wrong but it’s mine. I do not plan to openly vote again though! All teams mentioned above could beat each other on any given week. So this week is only this week on my ballot.

Edit: I missed Finesse HOF on second list. Good team from the past, I know they are very hurt right now. I haven’t seen them play much though this year.
