Getting back to softball...... I Heard today at our last Fall ball games :( :( :( that the starting 3rd basemen for Northview quit the team because she was not named captain????. Now I know this is just hear say on my part and probably should not speculate but if its true Why would a player quit for that reason???

Now this is a topic even I WTWTFP (WOULDN'T TOUCH WITH TEN FOOT POLE).

But it does make me wonder if team captains are really necessary.

Has this ever been a thread topic before? ?(think I'll post it on the general site) ;)

643p,......if that rumor becomes fact, it's a long time between now and when the pre-season gets started. The player in question will have plenty of time to cool down and think it all through. Softball doesn't have any on field decisions that need to be made with a "Captain", therefore the coach really has to think through all the pros and negatives before loading that Gorilla on the back of one of his players. Please don't mention the coin toss or whether to be "Home" or not. (Travel Ball or Nuetral Site)

I would agree with Thunder. Softball teams don't need captains, they need leaders. Therefore, let someone have the "C" on their chest. This young lady could still be the leader of the team.

I agree with both thunder and heat a "C" on a shirt does not make you a leader. I hope the young lady cools downs and decides to play. If you are a TRUE LEADER on the field and on the bench the others will follow in your footsteps.

I'm a liilte surprised that a varsity coach would have captains chosen in October. Doesn't anyone else find this to be a little odd. High School tryouts are March 10th, Teams haven't even beed selected yet, so how or why were captains chosen?

Riles3, I am not positive of the top three, because I don't have the final stats in front of me. I believe the following are the top five.

Sam Kolling - Anthony Wayne
Gabrielle Chartier - Anthony Wayne
Randi Hamilton - Springfield
Brittany Richberg - Springfield
Kail Heidtman - Northview - Not sure if she graduated or not.

Dragzilla, that was my first questions when I heard. then I asked what would be the purpose of a CAPTIAN anyway(ecsp in Oct). As I said earlier this was talked about from girls at NV that know her, but I am not really sure if it is true.

Bluffton doesnt give softball scholarships, so they must have offered academic money, which is even more impressive, cause they dont do that very often either lol.

This was as of May 10th 2007...Looking at these stats again, I didnt realize how good Brysons stats were for the year, they are very similar to Everitts and Gills. With Everitt gone does that make Gill Vs Bryson the premier pitching match-up in the NLL?

Oh and BTW very nice stats Biscuits ;)

Hey Uber, I would have to agree that the Bryson vs. Gill match up is the one to watch. I will say that Michalak pitched well in the fall tournament for the Heat. Therefore if she continues on that path the Bryson vs. Michalak and Gill vs. Michalak could be just as big.

How could I forget Megan, She is going to be visiting Hillsdale next week. Any college team would be lucky to get her. She is a fantastic catcher, but more importantly she is an outstanding kid. Zappone for Springfield will end up going somewhere, she IMO is the best second baseman in NWO.
